Hey Bf I’ve purchased my first Cold steel and I’m really loving the recon 1 great size materials action for the price. I’ve noticed that hardly anyone posts a cold steel on the for sale section that’s got to say something about them. Anyway this knife has really got me wanting to dive deeper into the world of CS. Anybody have any suggestions on which couple of knives I should purchase next? Thanks for your time have a good urn, I’m all ears.

American Lawman
Ultimate Hunter
Air Lite
AD10
AD15

AD10 AD10 AD10 AD10 AD10 AD10 after that buy 5 more AD10s. After that, 2 more AD10s.

The Recon 1 and the Ultimate Hunter completely changed my mind on cold steel!!! The AD10 is possibly the biggest surprise of my knife life. Was NOT expecting what it delivered, AMAZING. You really can’t go wrong with almost any Old Steel made in Japan. I’d stay away from any new GSM Cold Steel made knives until they’ve proven themselves all around.

Completely agree, I think the 4 max scout is definitely in the discussion as the most knife for the least money!!!!!! I picked one up a month ago and OH MY GOD, what a knife for $80-$90.
I picked one up off Amazon just for the hell of it, and when I opened the box I grinned ear to ear at just how ridiculously big it is. I’m thinking about getting the green one with black blade next.

I’m buying an ad10.

For so long I was stuck on American made benchmades, spydercos had some hinderers a and a few others but when I bought a demko I finally realized overseas quality isn’t lacking in any department.

Thought I post some action. I’m going to make a post about this eventually but I was unaware until recently how easy it can be to close certain lockbacks in general. I’ve repeatedly seen in the forum people commenting that they stay away from lockbacks because they require both hands to close or they cannot be closed with one hand. I know this is probably common knowledge to most knife enthusiasts but this changed my mind on owning more lockbacks! This applies to a lot of Spydercos as well and I’m sure so many others. Yes, I enjoy all my axis locks, compression locks, frame locks, liner locks, etc.

One point to make. With the AD10 specifically, you must put your index finger all the way forward toward the front guard and then engage the lock to close the knife. If you leave your index finger back away from the front guard, I guarantee you will bleed for about 5-10 minutes. Is this a downside or reason to avoid a lockback or this knife, maybe for some and I wouldn’t fight them on this point, but I love it and it’s extremely easy for me to operate with one hand quickly and safely.

The AD10 is incredibly smooth
It's amazing how often I hear this (and I agree...I also have one that's silky smooth). Other TriAds seem to have a lot of variance, but not so with the AD10 for some reason. Makes you wonder why they can't all be like that out of the box.

It is certainly strange. The Spartan, for instance, is on the opposite side right out of the box.

This is actually the way to close any Tri-Ad lock, at least for those with bigger hands.

That's how I close my 4-Max Scout and my XL Voyagers.

The only the exception is (perhaps) the Spada XL... (I don't have it, but I can't see a way to close it with one hand.)

I’ve wondered the same!!! A knife this strong, this smooth and hair popping/shaving sharp out of the box?????!!!!!! Why can’t they do this for others.

Like many have already suggested…an AD-10 or an American Lawman. Another option would be the Broken Skull…a few are still for sale online. I don’t own one but I have the Lone Star Hunter which is very similar. The BS and LSH have that “classic” hunting knife blade shape (ie Buck 110).

American Lawman is a good-sized folder a little smaller but handy or get the 4Max Scout quite the Beast. I have three different variations of the 4 Max and they are awesome. Good luck on your hunt there are just so many to choose from. The Talwar is one calling to me now.

The weaker the back spring, the better the action, correct? My Range Boss has a significantly lighter back spring and it is smooth like butter. How stiff is the spring on the AD10?

It’s hard to gauge this. I think the larger and heavier the blade, the lighter the backspring might seem, but could just be the momentum of the large blade.
