Love them Peanuts.

Whoa, Sunny!

Your girl is not really carrying that nice pearl jangling around with those keys and stuff, is she?

I'm gonna have nightmares tonight!

Not in School and not out to play with here friends, but anywhere/everywhere she carries her purse and has her house key.. When she goes out shopping, movies, out to lunch or diner, etc.. She is quite the little artist and does lots of projects with her Mom(who is a pre-K teacher) and the scissors is used most often on that Peanut.. Those scissors came razor sharp and still even holds a fine edge.

I know, I suppose I do spoil her and her brother to a certain degree with some things. But they earn it for the most part. Now the Pearl Case xx Peanut was a gift she got from me on the Christmas before last.. It was just shy of 100. dollars as I recall but she is well worthy of it!

I was more concerned about the pearl handles being chipped or broken by banging about on a keyring. Keys are hell on things they share a ring with.

jacknife,

As far as scratches, there are a few no doubt. But no cracks or chips at this point so far. Her purse has a little keys pocket which serves to protect it the same way you and I would carry it in our jeans.

Found another one.

I've been carrying my Peanut for a week now, and today I decided to carry my sodbuster jr. to work. It's bigger, and I figured I would probably be better off with more steel. Well, I underestimated the Peanut. That little Jack's cutting ability is friggin uncanny. As sharp as my sodbuster is, the Peanut blows it away. Man oh man can this thing cut. I am in awe, to be honest. Such a powerful little guy.

Any luck with the history of this pattern, sunnyd? I know you said you'd look it up, and I can;t seem to find anything.

Still working on it. After multiple searches at various sites all I am able to come up with is mostly conjecture, but no real definitive factual documentation on the 'origin of the peanut pattern'. However, I am pooling my resources and have signed up over at AAPK(All About Pocket Knives) and will post a new thread inquiring about this subject as soon I hear back from the administrator confirming my membership status. I recognize many bf members over there and have been a frequent visitor for research purposes in the past. But since I realized how much I enjoy being there deriving the good information they have to offer I thought I would join that community as well. It can only serve to further my knowledge in the subject of slippy's and thats a good thing.

Incidentally, I would like to thank you ElCuchillo for starting this very interesting thread. It has sparked my interest in this pattern on many levels and I have a new fondness for this cool little knife which both my children and my father carry and like so much.:)

Yup! Pretty much how I've come to view it. Incredible cutting ability in such a small, easy to carry package. Glad you are enjoying yours.

Hey Gents,

While surfing on the bay a little while ago I find this interesting Peanut that Wendall Carson has for sale(buy-it-now) called a Reverse Peanut Trapper at 2 7/8 inches closed.. The only real difference I see is the obvious which is instead of a pen blade for the secondary cutter he has replaced it with a nice full size spey blade. Please check it out and tell me what you think. I would love to here your opinions on this.

I don't know, sunny. It's a nice looking knife, and I love my peanuts, but I'm also kind of a purist. A peanut trapper is going to take me some time to think on. I do like the kudo horn. But a spey blade on a knife as small as a peanut is just not going to make it halfway to the bottom of the peanut butter jar!:D

I concur with jackknife.
It's too much of a trapper, and too much of a peanut (if this makes sense to you).
On the other hand, it's always nice to break out of the intermediate rut with an odd one out like this. And the horn handle looks good.

Good morning everyone. I think it is a great looking, quality knife. I don't think one could go wrong buying it. My personal preference is more in alignment with that of Karl and jackknife but I am quite a traditionalist in these matters. Don't let this discourage you sunnyd if you like it I say go for it.

I agree, sunnyd, if you like it, go for it. It is a cool little knife. Nice horn too. Probably make a good edc. However, as for it being a Peanut...........?

Anyone here remember the movie with John Wayne, The Quiet Man?

There's a scene in it where the little guy, Mikaleen, calls on Mureen O'Hara and she offers him a whiskey, and he takes it gladly, then she offers him some water to go with the whiskey. He tells her "When I'm drinking water, I drink water, but when I'm drinking whiskey, I drink whiskey!" Implying he did not want to dilute the essence of the experiance.

I guess I'm the same way with knives. If I want a long spey, I'll get a trapper, If I want a peanut, I'll get a peanut!:D

Whiskey is already 60% water...why would you want to add more?

Here is a Schrade cigar box classic. It has a nice bone handle. Not sure what the colour is called...I call it mahogany bone.

I awed a coworker today. He's young, and one of those guys who believes bigger is better. He loves knives..... big Rambo knives. What he calls tha absolute, without a doubt, undisputed perfect knife on the face of the planet. I always tell him that while those knives have their place, they are not the be all and end all of everything with a sharp edge. Well, today he was using his "survival" fixed knife to cut up some carrots to feed our Aldabra Tortises, and had to use a chopping motion to get through them. He was looking at me using the pen blade on my Peanut to cut some string to use as a popper on a whip, and started laughing at my "big, bad hunk of steel". I smiled, went over to his pile of carrots, and used the tiny little pen knife to literally devour five carrots. I sliced and diced them in the time it took him to finish his one carrot. He just kind've looked at me slack-jawed, not really able to register that I had outperformed him. He eventually came up with a reason to justify my knife's dominance over his. "Yeah, well, whatever dude, your blade is sooo small and soooo thin that of COURSE it's gonna cut like crazy!!" I laughed. "Isn't that the point of a knife, to be able to cut?" He said "yeah, but.... aww hell, mine is still tougher then yours!!" I asked him "tougher to do what?" He just grumbled something under his breath about having to go feed the animals, and slinked away. Another impressive showing for a little jack-knife that just won't quit. I also spent about an hour cutting up cardboard boxes, and my Peanut is STILL HAIR-SHAVING SHARP!!! Man of man!! This little "hunk-of-steel" just never ceases to amaze me!!!
