Haven't started any posts in a really long time. Just been busy making knives ....

Thought I'd share my first "Improved Handle" Hideout Fighter (made for a special customer, Thank you for the order :)):

Hideout fighter pattern designed by Bob Loveless. Blade steel is ATS-34 @ HRC 60, cryo treated and triple tempered with deep hollow grinds and a distal taper. Guard is heat treated 416 SS soldered, "Loveless" fasteners are 303 stainless. Green canvas micarta scales over red liners and a tapered tang. The design is pure, and from the mind of a genius. ;)

While I am a fan of many knives, I've rarely, if ever said outloud and to myself, "Ooohhh, man that is nice". Sir, that is exactly what I just did. I don't know all the fancy knife lingo, but I know something beautiful when I see it, and that knife is beautiful!

Congrats on having the skills in which to create something so wonderful.

yeah sweet work - Loveless sure had an eye and a feel, that blade is gorgeous and every time I look at the pic the handlle softly coos "hold me."

That is very nice Marcus.

I don't see a lot of makers attempting the "improved" handle, and you seem to have nailed it!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Marcus: As always, the knives and sheaths you create are exceptional.

Educate me on the improved handle. I'll assume RW Loveless improved this?

Was this a consistent pattern beyond?

Thanks!

Jim

Marcus hasn't been around since he posted this so I'll butt in.

Jim the Improved handle consists of the two ridges on the sides of the handle angles back. This didn't seem to translate to fighters except for the Hideout (lack of guard). In the last year or two one of the Asian makers won an award at Blade with a Loveless inspired fighter with an improved handle.

This concept seemed to be aimed at hunters. I have close to a dozen patterns of hunters with this handle concept. Jim says it simply didn't catch on. So Improved handles from the Loveless shop are pretty rare.

Most likely, anyone who has handled a Loveless Hideout fighter (improved handle) would probably agree that it's design affords superb control, no matter how the Hideout is held. I've personally never handled a better feeling "covert" fighter. A truly perfect design, IMHO.
