Hi fellas, thanks for looking. I tried a different finish on this gorgeous set of walnut scales - polyurethane, and I'm pleased with how it turned out. Professional stabilizing and the oil finishes I've used before on this walnut tended to darken the background and obscure the color contrast and figure. Since they use this stuff for floors that you walk on, and it's waterproof, it should do the trick, don't you think?! This is the tightest figured Tiger Walnut I've ever encountered - it's called Royal Walnut, which is a hybrid cross between Claro and English Walnut. The wood was dried for five years, and is perfectly quartersawn, making one side the mirror of the other. Asking $250 plus $15 shipping insurance to my Paypal account tksteingass@frontier.com The first PM, email, or "I'll take it" gets it. Maker's lifetime common sense warranty and free sharpening.

Happy Holidays to All,

TK

You really have the Loveless style down! They have been speaking to me with that figured walnut, soon one will mine. Keep it up. Martin

Well if I can get a few blades sold quick this one will be mine! Unless you'd like a Martin of Texas BT or SERE? :)

Tattooblade: Thanks for your offer of trade. Tell you what - if this sells before you have the cash on ready, I can always make you one on order.....just PM me. I have more of this walnut on hand.

Thanks Martin - PM me sometime and I'll make one for you!

Great looking knife TK. I've often wondered why makers dont urethane the handles...makes perfect sense to me for durability and wood luster.
Keep 'em coming and Happy New Year.

Bill: Good to hear from you - Happy New Year! There's advantages to both oil or polyurethane and disadvantages. Application of polyurethane is a bitch whereas oil is drop dead easy. It all depends on the wood - if you have some really light walnut, oil is the way to go. If you have walnut with lots of figure and color contrast - I like polyurethane because it doesn't hide all the neat stuff going on, IMHO, speaking as an old gunstock maker.
