Loveless Refurbish

Just bought a Loveless that is about 25 years old. It's in good shape except for some light scratches on the blade. Will the Loveless shop do any refurbish on these older knives or is it out of the question?

I'd leave it be.... it's part of the knife's history now, but that's me.

Mike- I've been following your work. Very Nice. My main problem from a collecting standpoint is that I can't stand to own a knife I don't use. However, I take better care of mine than the prior owner of this knife. He's a close friend, but at some point scratched the heack out of the blade. My main purpose for having it refurbished is so that I can use it and keep it "in order". You probably know Bob and his knives as well as anyone. Something I should pursue or not?

Mike knows him a lot better than I do, but I would suspect that if you sent your knife to Bob, it might never come back.......not because he isnt honest, but he would never get around to it!!!!:(

That ,and he just can't do what he use to. But it wouldn't hurt to call. Where are the scratches? Are they close to the logo? Mike

Mike- None are close to the logo and most are in the forward 1/2 of the blade. I don't know what could have caused it other than something during sharpening.

I had the same thought about the turn around even if he would agree to do it. With the demand for Loveless knives not much time can be justified on maintenance.Seems like I read somewhere else that Jim's health has not been good and they're not working many hours or many days each week.

I have the same problem with a 60's Moran fighter that I scored on Ebay. Tiny piece of the tip missing, browned out blade but no pitting and a horrible attempt at sharpening that chipped the edge up by the choil. This thing was used and abused, but it is a model that I have always liked. Not sure if "history" is supposed to be this ugly:D Next time I run into Jay Hendrickson, I am going to ask him if he would be willing to spruce the old girl up a bit.

Jfiles. If they can't do it, I wil be more than happy to clean up the old Gal. Jim is doing great these days. He says he feels the best he has in 20 years. Wish I could say the same! But the days in the shop are short. Only three a week. Mike

Thanks Mike- I appreciate the offer. I'll give the Loveless shop a call on Monday to see if they have any interest in doing it. I'll mention that you have offered and more than likely I'll be giving you a call.

As Mike said, theres no harm calling the shop. Have bought a few Loveless blades over the years that were pretty used and pitted, brought it over to the shop to have them cleaned. First thing Bob wanted to know was where did I get them, then he would go over the knife and explain the design of it. Really appreciated the conversations I had with him and Jim in the mid to late nineties, every part of the knife they made had a practical reason behind it. Its good to catch Bob on a good day though, you will know when hes not having one!
