Loveless Style Chute Knife in Sambar Stag

My take on this?

I think this is a VERY nice "Loveless-esque" knife, without being a Loveless clone knife :D

From a technical point of view STeven is certainly right, but the look of the knife and the lines work for me

Thanks Bill - glad you like it!

No, I'm not Ken....the smilie was because people don't usually want to take the bad with the good.

The good:
1. Nice piece of stag, well sculpted
2. Nice taper to the tang, real nice
3. Clean fit, and mirror polish.

The bad:
1. That grind is OFF....the clip grind is way too deep into width of the blade, and the primary grind is too shallow....it should be reversed. The grind for the primary should be higher, the clip less so. Think about the centerline of the blade...it's damned difficult on Loveless grinds to do, but you can spot it when it is off a mile away.

+1

I will add that I have ZERO problem with folks doing their own interpretation of "the Loveless Style" and I have seen a lot of such interpretations which I really like. This is not one of them. As much good as there is in the workmanship and materials in this knife, and the extra tapered tang is nice IMO, I just cannot get past the grinds. And if Loveless had made his knife this way, I am pretty sure I still would not like it. I do not understand the point of having such a narrow primary grind into the width of the blade, especially in combination with such a long ricasso. The overall effect to me is as if one had a much smaller knife. Anyway, JMO and the best part is that my opinions on a lot of things are not necessarily in the mainstream of this forum, so take that FWIW!

Don't hold back now - tell us all what you really think! :D:D Regardless, I appreciate all input - both good and bad. :)

It is a very pretty knife.

The new owner will be very happy.

I am one who likes a higher grind on the primary. It was not the first thing I noticed about the knife. I first noticed the clean finish, guard, lovely handle and then noticed the shorter primary grind. I would love to own a clean lovely knife of this caliber. But you have to take anything I say about Loveless style knives with a grain of salt, because I have never owned one.

The grinds are somewhat unique for this style knife. But, what a nice piece. And the stag! Oh, man, the stag.
