It's been a couple weeks since I've read the Shop Talk forum. I like the "Tip of the Day" threads. Great reading. I hope no one minds if I add one.
I use Loveless style rivets a lot in my fixed blade knives. I've never liked filing the excess rivet head down to the handle only to see the threads showing and creating a slight gap between the screw and the rivet. I've started cutting them slightly less than 1/8" above the handle and then pounding on the center screw with my ball peen hammer until it's just about flush with the handle. After I file off the excess rivet it now looks like all one part with no gap or threads showing. It hasn't happened yet but I'm careful not to crack or split my handle material knowing I'm increasing the diameter of the rivet in the handle slightly.
