Looking good, does the taper for your tang start right behind the gaurd? Also do you have a jig for getting that right or do you mark it or eyeball it. All the grinds on that blade are looking excellent.

It starts right behind the guard, i scribe a light line for reference after fitting the guard and then just eyeball up to it and that happens at the very end. Ill square the scales, fit them up to the guard meassure my gap and file fit the difference off the bottom of the scales if that make sense? Thanks for the grind compliment!

That's a sweet looking blade Greg! You do exceptional work and I know this one will turn out great!

Hi all!

David thanks for the compliment! Your one hell of maker!

So here she is back from her salt bath, she got to bath behind some real monsters up at the Wheeler compound, but any how came out gorgeous, straight, and RC'd at 58-59! In this shot ive dykemd the edge, set up the heigth gauge, figured center with the aid of a calculator set my scribe and established center so that i could have that reference point.

The next shot is after a nice point drop on to the shop floor to ensure everything is a go!! Not a bit of damage, the guard was fitted at the time and confident that this knife will serve its owner without failure! Noticed the nice divot in the floor!

one thing - the ricasso area needs to be rounded. Bob hand filed a radias from the blade to the back of the guard so his milling radius of the guard matched the ricasso. He slide the guard back against a square stop to mount the guard.

Very true, and thank you for the reminder!! Luckily for me i can take the guard off and complete that radius.

Thanks again Argel!!
Striking difference for sure, may need a bit more, I know theres a actual gauge out there, but im not in the know. Anyhow heres the goods!

Sorry to disagree but that is not correct.

All hunters have a square ricasso. Fighters (except the chute) have both top and bottom of the ricasso radiused.

Are you guys talking about the radius that appears in the a last photo that Greg Haile posted? That the edges from where the blade ends at the plunge to where the guard is located has a radius applied?
