Low Carry Knives like this one

Al Mar SERE 2000. The clip is screwed onto the bottom of the handle, not the side. Can't get any lower carry then that. Plus, it's one of the best production knives you can buy. I love mine and highly recommend it.

Regards

I like the design of the Al Mar mini sere too, BUT, I find it hard to close with one hand... everytime i use my thumb to unlock it, and my index to close it, I am always afraid that I would close on my thumb... :p

I also carry a mini-SERE IWB as well as whatever work slicer I'm currently using in LFP. The knife almost disappears when it's clipped to something since the clip attaches to the end of the handle instead of the side.

I like a slightly stiff opening action no mater what kind of lock a knife has. I've never had a problem closing this one because of the tiny ball detent (I think it's called?) that lets the blade stop just after it comes off the liner so you can move your thumb.

I know many people dislike Gerber but, I have owned spyderco, kershaw etc but my daily carry is a serrated Fast Draw because of it's super low carry and cool lock, it has thumbstuds and flush mounted flipper very cool knife I want another one as a ready replacement. Great knife for 40 bucks.

A little update. Love the low clip and recessed slipper but, the steel SUCKS!!!

Hi guys thanks for the quick replys.

I searched out all the knives you listed, but none of them are low profile carry like SOG makes them.. :(
Low profile as in when u clip it to the inside of the pocket, you would only be able to see the clip, and no part of the knife.

They also didnt have the arc-lock type undo and release..

The super-awesome boker jim wagner reality based knife can be disguised as a ballpoint pen when it's in your pocket ..

Your search is OVER. You need a Benchmade Mini Griptilian with a clip from the aforementioned Benchmade Mini Pika. The Mini Pika clip is low ride (not quite as low as the SOG) and easily replaces the stock Mini Grip (or fullsize Grip) clip.

Then you have yourself a real knife with a low-ride clip and a lock similar to -- but better than -- the ARC lock you want.

You can get Benchmade to send you a Mini Pika clip for free in the mail if you're nice to them on the phone/email.

Griptilians come in a bunch of sizes, colors and blade steels. I have at least 9 Griptilians (stopped counting) and have been carrying them with the Mini Pika clips for several years. Highly recommended!

What? nobody mentioned Rat Trap?

THe Mini Griptilian uses 440C steel? Doesnt really sound like a good steel...

Anyway Im waiting for the SOG vulcan, it has everything I wanted :D

How would you feel about taking the clip off and putting the knife in your pocket? Might expand your range of possibilities here ;)

Benchmade Rukus and mini Rukus
Snody 420 Resistor
Combat Elite RRF

These are not as "low" as what SOG makes :(

I am looking for this low:

I beg to differ about the RRF.My Combat Elite RRF IS just as low as that SOG. My RRF was made when Darrel Ralph still had a handin the business.

THe Mini Griptilian uses 440C steel?

Griptilians were 440C, which is actually a very good steel. They are now 154CM, also a good steel. There's a mix of old and new stock around. These are around $60.

You can also get a D2 version of the Grip from Cabelas for $80 (can't remember the pricey).

You can also get a Doug Ritter Griptilian which is in S30V. Can't remember the exact price on the Ritter Grip. It's around $100. Use the search and/or Google and you'll learn all you want to know.

I have 2 in the 154 CM, 1 in the 440C, 1 in D2 and 4 in S30v. They are all good. There have been some reports of chipping of the S30V on these boards. Use the search and you'll learn way more than you want to know!

Pick the one that fits your budget. There are various colors depending on which steel you want.

I have been in search of low-ride clips, too. I recommend the Mini Grip as the most veratile.

If you really don't want people to know you have a knife, you have these options (at least these are the ones i've had):

  • Benchmade Griptilian with Mini Pika Clip - Good knives. The end of the Mini Grip sticks up about 1/8" higher than the clip but it's black (or whatever color you buy) so it's not noticable. I f you buy the full-size Griptilian it sticks up about an 1/8" higher than the Mini grip. The Mini Pika clip is small and sort of pen-like so it doesn't scream KNIFE! like other clips. I have a gray version with a mini Pika clip that I polished (so the clip is bare metal) which is very low-key with lighter jeans and kahkis where black is not as stealthy.

  • Al Mar SERE 2000 - The end of the knife is way to blocky to hide in your pocket. The clip is awesome but it's too big to hide, along with the rest of the knife.

  • Spyderco Caly 3 - Great knife. One of my favorites. It rides low but still has the end sticking up a little. The end is chrome so it can be quite noticeable. The clip is wire and specially coated to be low-key. You could also try a Spyderco UKPK but as far as pocket carry is concerned it's the same knife as the Caly 3 (though it's different in many other respects).

  • SOG Flash II - The best clip of the bunch for it's low-key factor. But the knife is somewhat lacking in most other respects IMO. The handle is blocky, not *that* comfortable. The blade flings out with strange inertia and my blade has vertical and horizontal play. I sanded off some of the square edges with helped with the ergos but not the rest. I find the size and ergos of the Flash I to be truly awful.

  • SOG Twitch XL - A much better knife over all when compared to the Flash II. It has a thin profile, metal scales. The problem with the clip is that it says SOG in it! WTF?!? I've been meaning to use a dremel to remove the letters out of the clip but never got around to it. I wish they would have used the same design as the smaller Twitches and then it wouldn't look like a knife in your pocket. The space between the clip and the scales is tight so thick pants/pockets are a bit of a problem

  • Have STR make you a low-ride clip - Someone like STR can make you a custom clip that low-rides for most any knife you want. I have one he made for my Spyderco Mini Manix which is titanium. It carries nice and low and is annodized to match the color of jeans. He also made one for my ZDP Calypso Jr which also made it carry Tip Up as God intended knives to carry :)

  • Take clip off and wear in your pocket - It's an option. Sometimes it's great, sometimes not so good. It's an option, though.
