Low-key clip folder for khakis?

I have several Ritter Grips (and ritter minigrips) and the standard assortment of Spydies, but all are not all too conspicuous when worn clipped to the pocket of light-colored pants. I work in an office environment and feel better when people don't comment on my knife.

The black knives and handes are discete with black pants but scream KNIFE! when worn with light-colored pants.

I usually don't wear a knife clipped to my pocket since I don't like people to know I'm carrying. I've started wearing them clipped to my pocket and it's much nicer than it being buried in my pocket with my keys, etc.

What ~3 inch bladed, Tip Up folders work well when wearing beige pants?

I just saw a Desert Tan Spyderco Endura, which is bigger than I was thinking and it also has a black clip. But the color seems perfect.

I was thinking that steel handles and a silver clip may do the job, but I do like lighter weight knives...

So here's my criterea:

~3 inch blade

not too noticeable when worn with lighter pants (or rides low like a SOG Flash)

Reasonable price < $125

Relatively light weight

Anyone have ideas?

Have you thought about wearing the knife clipped inside your waistband in the front? That's where I carry mine. Most 3-4 inch knives are comfortable there and very inconspicuous. The belt covers the clip and the end of the knife is mostly obscured by my shirt.

I usually carry a small sebenza, native 3 or delica. Kershaw Vapor works well too, but it's a tip-down knife.

I've actually taken the clips on my knives and torched them. The nice shiny and high visibility clips end up quite subdued, while the titanium clips end up a mix of bronze and blues. This actually helps them to "disappear" in my pocket.

Check out SOG's Flash series. The smaller Flash I model meets your size criterea, and the clip is a 'bayonet style' which leaves only the brushed-metal clip exposed when it's clipped in your pocket.

...... aaaaaaand you're already aware of them. Right. Gotta work on those reading skills....

Raghorn - Actually I do carry IWB, but that's my big knife -- usually the Ritter Grip. I find it really comfortable as long as I have a shirt tucked in.

I need a EDC/smaller knife that people wouldn't notice when clipped to my pants unless they were looking for it. I'm thinking gray or silver would be best. Something like the Spyderco Salsa titanium, maybe. That has the wire clip would should help, too.

I considered getting a yellow BM 556 (I like the axis lock). That would "friendlyize" my knife, but I still think I would rather have it not be noticed rather than have it be seen as friendly.

Artsig1 - Good point on the clip. I was wondering what the best method would get the black paint off.

BuckyKatt - I have both the Flash I and II. I don't really like the Flash I, but I should probably give it a better test by actually carrying it for a few weeks  . I like the Flash II and I love the small, low-riding clips on the Flash series. That's why I bought them! But the little Flash I just feels small and cheap in my hand. I need to give it a better shot, though.

Thanks for the comments.

Your requirments perfectly describes Spydercos UK Penknife but their hard to find.

Stieg, I have the Ti Salsa and, while great iin the hand in terms of big cutting in a small package, it is quite conspicuous as about an 1" X 1.5" stick out of the pocket. OTOH the Spydie Meerkat is my usual discreet invisi-knife. The wire clip is mounted such that the butt rides completely inside the pocket and well, it's a wire clip so it's like it's not there.

I can't believe that I am the first one to say this but a Chris Reeve Mnandi would be perfect. The clip alows for a very low ride and looks like the clip on a ball point pen.

SOG Twitch I or II, all the way. very low ride in the pocket, and the clip looks very un-knifelike. very elegant and affordable folder, too. check it out before you make your decision.

edit: D'OH! i didn't see your tip-up criteria 'til now. oh well, check out the pic anyway.

Thanks Allyourblood, the Twitch II may work for me. It *is* tip up, thanks for the tip.

Marcelo - The Meerkat looks good. It's tip down, but otherwise looks very good. Thanks for that. How does the lock work? I read a discription but it didn't make any sense to me.

I have a mini Rittergrip that I carry IWB but you're right, you need a loose shirt to obscure the end sticking out. I'm wondering if anyone has seen a kydex or leather clip-on sheath that fits IWB. This would have the added benefit of negating the need for a clip on the knife, thus making it more comfortable in the hand. (apologize for the hijack) :)

If you go that route, there's also the yellow Mini-RSK Mk1 (model 558). (A new production run should be available from Aeromedix.com about February time-frame, with a little luck, but you didn't hear that from me. ;) )

I think TOTC or Neetones posted a pic of a yojimbo in pocket-it looks like a pen.

Also, I just read Carlos's review of the UK penknife-that thing is virtually invisible in pocket-I just don;t know where you could find one.

My choice is the Dozier Thorn. Small, light, grey and D2 to boot.

i changed the clips from a BM monocrome and BM mini-grip and that works for me. the mono's clip is smaller and doesn't stand out as much, and nicer looking too.

Do I get a deal since I already own 2 RSKs and 2 Mini-RSKs?

If you put a silver clip on it I will probably buy one.
