Lower end Spyderco vs Byrd

Love my Byrds, and still have not pulled the trigger on a Tenacious. Ive been carrying my Byrds for a few weeks and see no reason to replace them. I just cant see the Tenacious or Persistence out performing them.

I have a G10 Medowlark, a SS Meadowlark and a Crow in G10. They are all exceptional. I think the most I paid for any one of them was around 20.00.

I have a tenacious, and a Cara Cara 2. The cara cara 2 gets carried, the Tenacious doesn't.

I have had my spyderco/byrd cara cara 1, for well over a year edc on and off. still going strong. I will get a cara cara 2

The good news is that both are pretty affordable. Try both and decide which you like better...

Just got a Byrd Robin2 in stainless on Friday. It's got the flat grind, full serrations and so far, I like it. I'm not a big serration guy but wanted to find out how these things are. Got it on The Bay from a seller I like for not too much $$$. Great solid feel in the hand and firm lockup and snap. Oh, and really SHARP! Is it a Delica, Endura, Sage, Gayle Bradley, Native (USA!) or any of the other high price, premium steel Spydie offerings? No, of course not - but what it is, is a nice affordable and quality low end usable knife. On par with the value folders? As for value I say yes; as for use over time I say, we'll see. I have the Tenacious, Persistence and a UKPK - will be picking up the Ambitious soon and maybe one of those other knives mentioned above. But, I will also be looking at adding a few more Byrds in FRN and G-10. (BTW, call me crazy but I can't wait 'til the ManBug comes out! Very cool!)

The f&f on my SS Cara Cara is every bit as good as my Police and I don't say that lightly. I bought a Tenacious, played with it for an hour, and promptly gave it to my wife. I almost cut myself twice searching for a non-existent choil. Anyway, I give the Byrds high marks for design and execution.

My Meadowlark 2 came in. Smooth action, lightweight, & better fit & finish than last year's Byrds. Light & grippy without being abrasive. Lockup is solid. It's basically a Delica with a finger choil for $20. I'm very pleased.

My Meadowlark 2 came in. Smooth action, lightweight, & better fit & finish than last year's Byrds. Light & grippy without being abrasive. Lockup is solid. It shaved cleanly out of the box. It's basically a Delica with a finger choil for $20. I'm very pleased & will be buying more of these.

I only have a Spyderco Persistence and a Byrd Cara Cara 2 (FRN) to represent each category. It is very difficult to compare these two models as they are completely different knives, but I think the overall fit & finish is better on the Spyderco *and* it has a far superior warranty. Then again, it cost twice as much as the Byrd.

I do not regret buying either and would recommend both.

I own a Tenacious. That said, I also own several Cara Caras. The original in FRN, CC2 in FRN, and CC2 in Stainless. The Cara Cara 2 FRN is my current large EDC knife. I've been trying to rotate through my knives and shake up my EDC a bit...but the CC2 always ends up back in my pocket after a day or two. I may pick up a Meadowlark soon as well. I own a first gen Byrd Robin, and it is simply too small for my liking. It's analogous to the Spyderco Dragonfly, basically.

I love the F&F on both my Tenacious and my Byrds, but the Byrds are just so much slimmer in the pocket. I am considering picking up a Resilience though. The sheer size of the blade wets my appetite a bit.

You can't really go wrong with either selection, but I personally favor my Byrd knives a bit more.

I regularly EDC a SOG Aegis, but I just picked up a Byrd Cara Cara 2 G10 for my work knife. I was thinking that or the Tenacious. I have bought a Tenacious for a friend, since he is an Auxiliary RCMP and didn't have a decent knife. I guess it comes down to the shape of the knife for me. I find the Tenacious line really wide while folded.

The byrd are very good knives fot ist price. I'm into a good edc folder that can be used without caring about damage or losing a big spending. I own a Caracara1, medowlark1, robin1, flight g10 CE, caracara2 rescue and edc a medowlarc2. the Caracara has proven is use, as can be read by a review i wrote some time back: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...d-CaraCara-use-in-jungle-review-and-some-tips

I do own other spyd's including a Tenacious. under a magnifying glass the fit and finish of the Tenacious is equal to the byrd...they have minor flaws compared to high-end knifes. Just check a few in the shop and pick the best. these flaws are minor and do not influence the property of the knife. but this is all in the price, a real good bang for you buck (or euro;)). I think the big difference between Lower end Spyderco and Byrd is the design & warranty.
