I found a new product at www.trick-tools.com that looks like a bader type belt sander for about $500 with an 8" rubber wheel, and 2" x 48" belt. Anybody have an opinion as to the use one might get from this machine? It doesn't have all the attachments of the Bader, or Burr King etc, but $2K less.

what say you?

thanks

I have this grinder from Trick Tools... Nothing fancy, but it definitely get's the job done. I can easily grind large bowies on it if i want to. It has plenty of power. I use mainly blue zirconia belts that are 6"x48" and I split them at the seam and tear them into 3 2"x48" belts. So I get 3 belts for the price of one. I haven't had any problems tracking the belts or anything like that. I find, for me anyways, the 6"x48" belts are easier to come by than the 2"x72" belts around here, plus I get 144" worth of total belt surface to work with using a 6"x48" as compared to 72" in one belt. They work well and are very cost effective. I originally wanted to get a Grizzly or Bader grinder, but then I would have been continually paying for 2"x72" belts and having to get them specially ordered or something because they are not readily available where I live...that and the fact that Grizzly doesn't ship to Canada and a Bader would have blown my bank account.:( I honestly don't see how a 72" belt is going to last that significantly longer than a 48" belt anyways...it's really only another 24" of belt surface. I may as well economize and have 144" to grind with. But anyways, maybe my methodology is questionable to others, or maybe it sounds like I'm just being cheap, but whatever works works right? :D Here's a pic of the grinder with the Multitool the way I have it set up. I switched it around to the left side with the belt vertical and rotating downwards...not typical for the Multitool, but I find it works much better like this than in the horizontal position on the right side. If you were referring to one of the different machines, then I'm sorry.
