LT Wright Scandi GNS or Bark River Bravo 1 - Help!

Today's the day to do my Christmas shopping for my two (grown) boys. I've been looking for a 4" - 4.5" fixed blade for camping/outdoors.

My requirements are:

Ergonomic handle, linen or canvas micarta

Semi - drop point preferred, spear or clip considered

Saber grind preferred, flat or scandi considered

Easily maintained steel, but stainless would be a plus

Nice leather sheath

$180/knife budget

After lots of looking, I think the closest I'll come is either the LT Wright Scandi GNS or Bark River Bravo 1 (rampless).

The Bravo 1 looks great - I'd prefer the Bravo 1 LT, but the price is over budget, as are steels other than A2

If I went with the LT Wright, I'd prefer the saber, but they seem to be all gone. I don't own any scandis, but am intrigued.

So, chime in all. Is there an untapped source for LT Wright saber GNS's? A good deal somewhere on the Bravo 1, or an (unthinkable) source for the Bravo 1 LT that puts it closer to my budget?

Any drawbacks to the O1 or A2 on these? Any sharpening difficulties for either knife?

A knife very similar to these I've missed? I'd appreciate any and all input.

Regards,

Jeremy

The Bark Rivers are convex grind, something to keep in mind for sharpening. It's easier for me than maintaining a v-grind, but not the case for everybody. I had a Bravo in A2 and it was great, but thick. Too thick. The 3V LT Bravo 1.25 (if they make that config) is what I would get instead. Just checked, I don't think they do yet, but the 3V LT would be plenty thick enough for all normal tasks, and keep an edge and be mo durable than A2 for a few bucks more. I'd throw out my favorite of theirs- the Aurora, in any config as better length (around 4.5) and better for me for bushcraft.

I don't have a LT Wright, but 01 and A2 in general are fairly easy to sharpen. Scandi grinds are dead-simple.

Deals can be found on our exchange here. Good luck in your search.

I haven't tried any of LT's knives since Blind Horse split up but I still have a couple BHK fixed blades in O1 and I absolutely love them. I'm not great at sharpening knives but I can easily get their O1 to a razor edge and the knives hold that edge for a good long while.

I just bought and had delivered an LT Wright GNS saber grind with natural canvas micarta scales as a Christmas Gift for my son. IIRC the on-line vendor had four available when I bought it. If you still want to know who/where, send me a visitor message.

I own multiples of both. Lt makes a fantastic product. Stands behind there product. No question warranty.fit and finish are outstanding.

Thanks for the replies so far.

@Danketch - how do you sharpen your convex grinds?

On a stone, either waterstone at home, or pocket DC4 with circular scrubbing motions in the field. Strop on basswood with BR white compound.

@Leghog - thanks for the tip - found them at the site you provided.

Thanks to everyone else for the good info!
