Wasn't there going to be a folder with a WIDE bladed Chinese folder made?
Or was I dreaming about it?

Thanks Blade and Sal! I thought I was dreaming, I love that blade style and will definitely put that on my NEED to have list!

By the way, Sal, what steel are you earmarking for this folder?

I too, am eagerly awaiting the Chinese folder. I have loved this design since I first saw one of the handmades. I was just noticing the other day, that the Boye Folder has very similar lines, though quite a bit smaller. I think this is a very natural design and very ergonomic. I just know the Lum/Spyderco will be worth the wait.

VG10, nice call, that steel really takes an exceptional edge, looking at the Calypso I have.
Can't wait as well!

Hey Gary, what if I mentioned that last I heard the Chinese Folder was going to have dark green Almite scales. How much do you want one now?

I've been impatiently waiting for this knife since the prototypes were shown at Blade '98. Thank goodness the wait is nearly over.

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow....in Australia it's tomorrow already.

This is next on my must have list. Is spyderco still planning on the small and large versions too, depending on sales of the medium?

Jbroome - correct. We'll need to see the Domestic ELU reaction to this unusual (to the American eye) design.

I'm waiting for this one too. Not quite with bated breath, though. I would have died long since if I had held my breath that long.

I'm just glad to hear that it's still coming.

Thanks Gregg ... aahh yes, I remember seeing those pics now. I think I like the first Bob Lum Folder, with the modified Tanto style blade much better.

Came real close to purchasing the Bob Lum Tanto Folder today, but I got to research the lock and specs more in depth first, this in-depth info I can't really find anywhere?

Like:
Weight,
Ti Slab thickness,
liner thickness & is there double liners or just one,
blade thickness,
etc, etc.

How does the liner lock wear in relation to other high end liner locking production knives out there?

For the MSRP, it seems a bit high, but maybe not if I knew all the specs.

I still haven't closed my mind in purchasing this knife yet, it does look neat!

Is this the knife that's pictured in the November 2k Blade magazine. I gotta have one, I was getting worried Spyderco was lagging behind some of the competitors... It's gorgeous!

I am going to be on this one like a duck on a June Bug...

I just got the newest Blade, and that picture of the Lum Chinese Folder on Sal's article is killing me. Killing me I say! It's just reinforcing my memories of the proto from the Blade show. I NEED one of those!!

I liked the Blade magazine picture too! After going to the posted links and looking at the clipside picture, it looks like it will ride too high to suit me. Good, a reason to resist temptation.

It is ironic that Brain mentioned the Boye Folder shape (presumably the wide one) as being similar, as I find that the Boye folder rides a little higher than I like. I do like the Boye folder though. I have a Blue Whale (wider blade) and a Prophet Companion (narrower blade with the elongated opening hole), both in cobalt. If you look at the slight difference in width by the numbers, one would never imagine how much difference the appearance is.

Looking at the hole placement for the clip screws on the Lum folder I do not believe the following suggestion would work for this knife, but might work for others. It would be nice if the clip retention screws were set as far apart as practical. A regular clip could come with the knife. For those who wanted deeper pocket carry, one could order a deep pocket clip with the fold extending up past the screws--the reason for the wide placement.

If the Spydie had that spring loaded clip advocated recently, it would even be easier and/or could be done with one clip. Mount the clip at the very end. Put a fold or ridge partway down the clip. If one slips it on the pocket or waistband and opens the clip a moderate amount, the fabric will stop at the ridge. If the user squeezes the clip all the way open it will allow the fabric to go all the end. I want one on my Military Junior.

I hereby volunteer to test the variable spring loaded clamp for reliabilty and ease of use, along with the poster with the nice graphics!!!

Since Spyderco popularized the clipit, it is only fitting that they take it to the next level of innovation!

Such a design would save wear on clothing, yet fit even tighter for joggers, military, etc. The tighter fit might also reduce the possiblity of the clip catching on and damaging furniture. These benefits would then justify the greater cost of implementation.
