To all you Lum Chinese users, I would love to get some feedback on the blade finishes. I'm torn between the plain or black VG-10 and was wondering how the black finish holds up to normal daily use. Pictures are nice also. :D Also is there anyone who thinks the ZDP-189 is worth the extra $80?
Thanks!

I have a VG-10 flavored Lum Chinese. Think it has green scales, but they look gray to me as I am rather colorblind.

The Lum Chinese is, in my view, one of the best look folders not only in the Spydie lineup, but among any manufacturer. Very smooth, organic lines.

I do not carry my Lum very much, though. The shape in your hand is larger toward the thumb and index finger, and smaller towards your pinkie. This tends to promote the feeling like the knife is going to shoot out of your hand like a banana squirting out of a banana peel, if that makes sense.

I place it in the classy, gentlemen's folder genre. Its a light use slicer, in my view. I would buy it again - I just don't carry it very much.

I agree it is beautiful and not a hard use knife. I handled one at the Knob creek show and understand your banana analogy. I still like it enough to want one. Is yours the black or plain blade?

I've got the VG-10 version coming any day this week. I like its simplicity and beauty, and also noticed the odd, slippery ergonomics of the shape. I think all my uses of a knife are essentially "gentlemanly" - I go for ultra-sharp slicers, so I won't be putting it to any hard use.

Mine is not black, so I can't comment on wear other than to note that any coated blade is going to show wear eventually. I have a Military with a black blade, and it looks well-worn, but I like the look.

I don't have any of the VG-10 folders, but I was lucky enough to get the ZDP-189 version of the Lum, and it's arguably one of the sharpest knives I have. It holds an edge forever, and just a little stropping is needed to keep it laser sharp.

I have a ZDP version, I have been carrying more often since I tried to sell with no luck. I figured I would just carry and use it. It is a great slicer for sure.

The only one I have is the ZDP-189 version. I've never been able to warm up to it. Maybe if the scales were G-10 and the whole thing was 20% bigger, but as it is, it's a dust collector.

I have a ZDP-189 version that has a G-10 scale on the non locking side that i carry every once in awhile, it is a great knife but the thin flat scales don't quite work for me. If the scales were just a little thicker and contoured like the dejavoo I would carry it a lot more.

Did someone customize it or did it come from spyderco with G-10?

The only Lum folder with G-10 scales was the C46 according to http://www.spydie.nl/.

I've got 3: 1 C65S and 2 C65BKP. On the rare occasion that I dress up I carry one of the C65BKP. Lovely knife, very finely crafted, and not too intimidating. None of the blades are coated and haven't used the ZDP189 enough to know if its any better than VG-10.

BTW, these knives are the same size, the picture just makes the one in the foreground look bigger.

I have one in the mail and it is the Black coated VG10 and I plan on keeping it in the box. Like most here it does not seem to be a knife for EDC and imo it looks more like a piece of art that will hopefully have higher value later, like other Lum folders.

Well, I need to seek help because I ordered the black coated VG-10 Chinese Lum also and ended up ordering the Caly 3 Carbon Fiber at the same time. Total on both with shipping was $211.85. I'm pretty happy with that deal.:D Oh and I also have a Meerkat on the way.

wow that is good!

I bought my Lum Chinese Black Coated VG10 $90.20 shipped due to a 5% off sale lol
But very good price and NICE score on the Caly CF!

theres a chinese restaruant called lums in my neighborhood, is that what your talking about?

I have all 3 [of the newest] versions of Spyderco Chinese. The one with black coated blade is sitting in the drawer so I could not comment on how good the coating wears ...It looks the same as the coating on my ParaMilitary and that one is very good for sure.

If you ask me? The ZDP is well worth extra money ..don't think that you really need to add extra 80$ for it ...I spent around 140$ on mine but it was one of the first-preordered pieces. If you check under exchange on this forum you should find a piece once in a while

And YES ...somebody mentioned 20% bigger version.... I'm IN for a few pieces :) Mister Lum did great with his designs and so did Spyderco with production.

I have 2 in ZDP. Carry one now and then.
I am used to larger knifes, so dont use it too much.

A run with Ti scales will be out soon.
If anyone is interested.
