Sal,
This is probally going to be the first Spyderco fixed blade that I will buy. It sure is a great looking knife.
Good Collecting

I am very excited about this knife. VG-10 is a perfect steel for it too.

Can you tell us details now Sal?

Paraphrasing from the Spyderco.com forum:

Based on an Oct. 1 post from Joyce, the Lum will start shipping in "a few weeks"

Blade length just over 4 inches. Leather scabbard. Sal guessed that the MSRP would be $150 or so.

As the first batches will be going to collectors, I assume we won't get them until December at best.

The Fred Perrin bowie is shipping first. It will have a kydex sheath.

The new Spyderco Catalog is released to dealers on Oct. 15. Then we will finally know which items are being discontinued.

Is there somewhere one could go to see the Fred Perrin Bowie?

I do like that Lum, BTW. I'm developed quite a fondness for VG10, as well as tantos, lately. Whaddup wi' dat? I though most people went the OTHER way regarding tantos .

Go to the Spyderco.com forum.

Do a search for "Perrin Bowie"

You should find a post called something like "Photos of new models" posted in September of this year.

This was posted by lokelani from Spyderco.

You can see photos of the Perrin Bowie and the Lum Fixed Tanto as well as photos of the Meerkat, Vesuvius with Spyder inlay and the Temperance models, both variations.

Hi Ishay. As Joyce mentioned, a few weeks out. We should be shipping to collectors and some dealers the end of the month. The blade is not VG-10 though, It is AUS-8. Using VG-10 in a 5mm thickness threw the price too far up. It is a very impressive piece both in desigh and quality. The sheath is leather.

Thanks again :)

Bummer about the VG-10 but I think it'll be a real winner anyway.

I can always have Normark/Eric make a really cool kydex rig for casual wear ;)

Can't wait to actually handle one, I passed on one of the new Busse Pure Fighters cause the Lum looked much better, and at a much better price point:p

Sal,

Have you set a price for the Lum Tanto yet? Can the sheath be used by left-handers?

Pelle:

I'm pretty sure somewhere here or on the Spyderco Forum Sal said it was micarta. Pretty cool as that's my favorite FB scale material:D

I have always wanted a Lum tanto ever since the long-dead NW safari showed them in the catalog. I was broke then and so was forced to live without the Temple Guard or Envoy.

You now tell me it is coming in variation to the production market for $150? Please have the scabbard made by Frank Sigman, or at least be IWB ready without a J-clip, but instead a nylon loop!

And a Fred Perrin Street Bowie? Cooool, Fred is a great guy to write with and someday I will let him work out on me too, too much working these days and Mrs. gets pissy when I take off to go train instead of hanging her kitchen.

Sal, thanks for these, the AUS8 is my favorite stainles, so much tougher than the ATS series and this is going to ride in close on the body for occassional social interaction, not be some pricey collector's rig. I am really partial to my Mad Dogs for the daily grind, but this makes another choice when basic blade and blast is going to clash with my suit. Cost of VG10 is unnecessary, the Polkowski will do the job at $35 with AUS6, this is gonna rock with the '8.

I would request you go a G10 version or a tac-version with the handle roughed up as Micarta can get real slippery real fast. I also do not get bunged up if I scritch a G10 handle. Delivery date when?

Why the low-ride sheath? it screams for personal carry....

again, why a low ride pancake instead of a nice tight Kydex or leather high-ride rig?

uuuuhhhhhh.....

Should have been a high ride IWB W/ a snap loop, and that color is just god awful. Black would have been more appropriate.

I guess for $150 retail I can throw the stock sheath out and have one made...

Parker,

I have an old NW Safari catalog and they sold the Temple Guard and Envoy without a sheath, seems Spyderco should do the same. Like you I lusted after one but couldn't afford it. Still can't;)

:) How about ship it with no handle, no sheath, and we'll make are own?? :) Nice knife. On my list of Spyderco's to buy.

Blades

First off, let me say I am a huge spyderco fan and own at least a half dozen or more. Now let me say that the sheath for the new Lum fixed blade is so bad that it blows my mind. That is not a hunting knife. So why in the world would someone put such an ugly brown high profile loser of a sheath on what should be a nice low profile carry knife. Kydedx with a removable tek lok and IWB loop would have been far better. This is a great knife and it deserves better. It needed to ride IWB or at least have that capability. Hopefully somebody will just come out with an excellent sheath and we can all toss this one if we choose to buy it at all.

I sure hope the Perrin Bowie kydex sheath is not a monstrosity like this. Take a look at the sheath on the Camillus CQB models. This is what a sheath should be. What a huge disappointment. You don't know how many knives I never end up getting due to the fact the sheath sucks and its a pain to order a better one. What a downer.
