Lum Tanto Folder Ever Again?

One table at the local gunshow had a folder and a fixed blade. Unfortunately, he was asking $250 each!

Just check the post directly before your post from Sal, thee man behind Spyderco.

I did see that--it was what prompted me to ask. I suppose I should have worded it a little different.

I had not heard anything about another run of them until I saw Sal's post. Is there a post with details? From what I could find out from searching threads where it was mentioned peripherally, it is going to be in the new steel and will be released in the fall? Is that correct?

And referring to what Sal said about a run of Spyderco Lum's selling more BM versions:

The reverse is also true--I bought one of the Lum BM's and it has sparked a desire to get more of his work. To be honest, I am more of a Spyderco fan than BM and am very excited that there will be another Lum available from Spyderco.

Hi Bruce,

The Bob Lum designed Chinese Folder with ZDP-189 blade steel was supposed to come out last year. We're running way behind because of the steel. It is a limited run.

Thanx for the support.

sal

Thank you Sal,

By the way it was nice to meet you at Eugene--hopefully next year I can get there a couple days earlier!

Wow! $230. That's WAY too much money!

I'm sad but Spyderco must be proud. And rightly so.
I think this kind of thing is good for a brand.

I picked one up in mint condition from a Pawn shop 2 years back at Christmas.
It was my present to myself, and the knife nuts around home hated me for months. Paid only $60 for it and a plain edge police model which I traded as the balance of the knife was horrible. the lum folder is the plain steel model in ats-55 seki japan. I don't know what you guys are talking about for rusting, It fell out of my pocket at work and i did not notice till after the weekend. This knife sat in saskatchewan winter snow half open for 3 days! went and found her and wiped off then applied choji and it is clean and sharp as new. Really is a great knife and has been retired as my edc so as to not mess it up.

Oh I forgot! for anyone that REALLY wants the lum tanto folder. The local knife shop in town here has like 5 of each left and some fixed lum tanto as well.
they have both folders and blade types and are priced at $250 can. and the fixed are on sale for $175 can. both still overpriced in my opinion but there you have it, some nib's available.

Guys, I started this thread wanting ANY Lum Tanto folder. But, thanks to you guys and the information I learned in this thread, now I'm being PICKY about the one I want. I've even turned down opportunities!

I'm still looking for that ELUSIVE VG-10 Lum Tanto folder!

.

It's certainly a knife worth getting. I'm on my second one, a G10 handle, VG10 that I got in user condition for $50 a few years ago. I wanted one I wouldn't be afraid to use because my first was a Ti handle, ATS-55 numbered blade version. It was too pretty to use which is a shame because they work so well.

The C-46 Spyderco, Bob Lum tanto folder will certainly be a "HALL OF FAME" knife in the Spyderco gallery for sure. There were some designs that just didn't get fully appreciated until they were discontinued. That is a distinction that I have seen so many times with some of Spyderco's collaborations. Others that fall into that category are the JD Smith, Massad Ayoob, The Gunting, And the Lil Temperance are the ones that come to mind most quickly.

I never even liked the Tanto design until I got my first Spyderco Bob Lum folder. I was even lucky enough to get me a black bladed, ATS-55, G-10 handle combo edge user which is a user knife that I value more than some of my collector pieces. It really makes me sad to see that Bob Lum has gone on to other ventures and has pretty much walked away from Spyderco. But this will make the C-46 Bob Lum models even more precious. Along with the FB-03 Bob Lum fixed blade and not to mention his highly celebrated cult classic Chinese model.

I wish Mr. Lum well in his new ventures but I along with many others would love to see more of his stuff with a Spyderco label on them. Mark it down>> the C-46 will be one of the first Spyders to make the Hall of Fame>> that is if they ever implement one

Hopefully Bob will see the light, just like Emerson, Elishewitz, Terzuola, and Caracci did.;)

Then again, he could always collaborate with Cold Steel.....Oh, wait, he's been doing that for years but nobody told him.:D

I have a Lum Tanto folder in VG-10... Got of of the last NGK had left over two years ago... wished I'd have bought two.

It's a classic for sure.

I have one in ATS-55. Best looking tanto around and best in function for me. I wish we had a classic section to choose from. Spyderco's Classic Line or something similar.

I read this and thought. "He must live in Denver." Close!:D
I once told that guy that I didn't appreciate being treated like I was stupid.
He didn't like that.
