Luminox Vs. Seiko Vs. ???????

no, it's not defective, I find myself leaning against trees and rolling around on rocks and such in the middle of night at times. I know it sounds odd, but it's all part of the job. it does get accidentally depressed for a few seconds.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks.

Rolling around on rocks? OUCH! :D

Off-hand, the three watches I can name that Mr. Bond has worn include the Rolex Submariner (mostly Sean Connery), Omega Seamaster (Mostly Pierce Brosnan), and a Seiko (Roger Moore)- though I can't remember the model number.

The Seiko was, of course, the SKX007! :)

What did one time "Bonder" George Lazenby wear???

I don't think Seiko has ever purchased a product placement in a James Bond movie. It's not their style of advertising.

Bond trivia: he wore a Pulsar LED digital in one movie back when that was cutting edge technology. "That was cool!" -Beavis

Seiko does make a large variety of gentleman's watches.

I am a fan of automatic watches, and I wear a Seiko SKX009, the classic diver's watch with dark blue face, red and blue rotating bezel, lumibrite hands and the "wrinkly" rubber band.
Superb watch, and handles all day to day wear without hassles.

For a beater, I wear a Casio Pathfinder digital. Tough as an old boot.

If you want a watch that can take ALOT more abuse than you can, get yourself a Citizen SS 300m Ecozilla. I wear one, and I don't see how anything could wreck that MONSTER of a watch!...

I might have to look into some of these suggestions. I am notorious for destroying watches. They are never covered by the warranty either sadly. I particularly have a beef with swiss army watches.

Oh I always hated Roger Moore as Bond and switching from a rolex submariner to any seiko is like, well going from an astin martin to a bmw...

Hello, have you look in these forum?

I got plenty of information and pictures when I was looking for a new watch (ended with a Marathon GSAR :) ), so I learn about the Sinn EZM 2 filled by liquid silicon :jerkit: (reviews here: http://www.broadarrow.net/ezm2.htm and here: http://www.watchuseek.com/cgi-bin/a...m&cmd=get&cG=53933323&zu=35393332&v=2&gV=0&p= )and others watches. BTW the Omega Seamaster seems very well considered.
Regards and enjoy your future new watch ;)

The first 'good' watch I bought was a Luminox Navy SEAL tritium w/ a white face. Now I still like the watch and wear it occasionally but for that same money you could get a Seiko. So get a Seiko. :)

I would highly recommend a Seiko to anyone interested in a high quality, hard working watch. I own 7 Seiko's and I plan on owning more. You can't beat them.

Citizen is also an outstanding watch company and I can easily recommened them to you as well. I own 4 deifferent Citizens and love each of them.

Here's a few photo's of the different models of Seiko and Citizen I own.

I can kill most any watch known to man on the fish farms.
My guys all wear old longines watches I got on Ebloy years ago.
I retired my 1970 Submariner when I found out it's value about 3 years ago.
I wear the Seiko and it's taken it's beating well.
It's perpetually wet... like everything else I own.

My daily equipment ?

AFTCO shorts
Charter bulldog 44 stainless.
Columbia shirts
Crocks or Soloman tec amphibian shoes
Buck alpha rubber
Olympus 800 stylus
Seiko diver

I'll vouch for all of this stuff as wet/ tropical /swampy gear

What kind of fish farming do you do, tropical fish farming, or agricultural? The Bulldog for the fish that get out of line? I'm assuming you wouldn't shoot the poor alligators.

So far the best watch I've found *for me* is the Marathon M-16-II from WestCoasTime. It has an automatic movement, tritium illumination (RULES!), domed sapphire crystal, date at 4:30, two-piece zulu strap (buckles), pressure tested to 200 meters, and the watch is low profile. (I tried a Marathon TSAR but it sat way too high on my wrist, and it was quartz - bleh).

Here are the specs for the M-16 from Westcoastime

Here's the M-16 on an orange zulu strap:

And here's a lume shot:

No Seiko or Rolex is going to match the lume on this watch. Maybe if you care to take time out and "charge" a Seiko Monster, for example, but personally I prefer my lume to "just work" all the time, any time. I consider this watch to be true utility, and it gains < 10 seconds per day.

You can get a very nice Seiko SKX007k automatic 200M diver at www.chronograph.com for $128.00 shipped, or get an Orange (SKX781K3) or Black Monster (SKX779K3) both automatics on a rubber strap for $148.00 shipped. I have had an Orange Monster for about a year two years and really like it. I wear it mowing the yard, chain sawing, whatever I'm doing and it hasn't missed a beat, though YMMV.

Like Buzzbait said, people either really like automatics or they don't. The two Seiko's above are automatics that use the 7S26 movement which is non-hackable and non-manual windable. But is well known for it's durability.

If you want pure ruggedness, get yourself a G-Shock DW-6600. It isn't fancy, but it's tough as nails and you won't worry about it. In fact, I think it looks better the more it gets beat up, gives it character. You can find them new for $40.00 if you look around.

Mike

ps I have no affiliation with www.chronograph.com, just a satisfied customer.

Thanks to all for the great suggestions and pics. I really want a Marathon but the cost is about double what I could pay. THe only thing that makes me lean towards the Luminox is just the tritium, but otherwise I really think Seiko is the better watch...

Seiko fans, how's the "lume" and does it stay pretty bright once "charged"?

Chronograph.com does have great buys on the Seiko SKX's....

My wife really leans towards the Seikos too, because they look nice....

Here is a review of the Orange Monster, but the information will apply to the Black Monster as well. Has a lume shot along with links to other "Monster" articles. I'd say it starts out pretty bright (subjective of course), after a couple hours it's still readable, though obviously not as bright as right after being exposed to light.

No, I think the Rolex to Seiko is more like a shift from the Astin to a Ford- much like going from Brosnan to the new guy.

Yeah I was just referring to the few movies where Brosnan drove a beamer, fitting for a guy who hated being bond. Blach, going from a vantage to a 4 door sedan.
