Considering this one...

I'v had a few Luminox watches, the only one I have keps is the "black ops" watch.
Its the best Luminox I'v had with out a doubt but its a watch I only realy wear if im
doing something stupid that might cause problems for my other watches.
Luminox are not bad watches but you can indeed do better, I'd spend
more and go for an auto from Tag, Marathon, Glycine etc. if thats an option.

I've heard the QC on Luminox has not been 100% lately. I have a Navy SEALs that I bought back in '98. Still going strong after some good abuse and the crystal still has no noticable scratches. I'm a BIG fan of the tritium tubes which would explain why I have a Luminox, Traser, and a Marathon T-SAR all with the tritium tubes. Like Haze had mentioned I would look into either a Marathon or a Traser. Something else to consider, the tubes in Luminox and Traser are made by MB Microtech which are just a hair brighter than the ones in the Marathons. Most won't notice but there are WIS such as myself who notice little things like that :o :p

I had a Luminox watch simmilar to Xd-45's, but with Luminox on the face. It got beat on pretty hard on (I got in 5th grade maybe?) in probably '95. In '02 I found it again and tried to have it serviced, but the back had worn down to the point they just couldnt keep it waterproofed and so it eventually stopped worked all together.

I dont know about the quality now, but I would get a Marathon instead. Either the aviator or one of the SARS...

here is my 3051. i have had it for about 5 months now. i wear it all the time. it is the watch i wear in uniform.

I have had a Luminox for about 5 years now, it has been a great watch and I would buy another one.

I have a Traser (they make the Luminox watches also) and it has been my beater watch for a few years now. The bezel won't turn and the date locks up but the watch went for years on the first battery, keeps time very accurately, and survives dirt, mud, water, washing dishes, banging into trees, scraping on the ground.

I got a decent price on a Suunto Vector but never got around to wearing it because the Traser never wears out.

I have had a Luminox-8002 for about six years now, and its still going strong with the same battery. The face has no marks. I would surely recommend them. And if it broke and couldn't be fixed I would get another just like it.

while i havent had a luminox some of my buds have so i have checked them out fairly thoroughly, imho they arent a bad watch but for the money a seiko monster is a lot better watch imho, a marathon is too but is a bit higher, of my 3 buds who have luminox's 2 have had to send them in for work, i have never had any probs with seiko FWIW i have a '79 divers watch and it still runs fine and the backs never even been off, its had probably 3 or 4 bands though, i just really think seiko is better and if ya look probably cheaper too.

... but for the money a seiko monster is a lot better watch ...

I just got a great deal on a Black Monster and I haven't worn my other watches since. I probably will go back to the Traser for the woods where I don't so much need a watch anyway and don't need to scrape up the Seiko.

I'd probably go with an automatic or kinetic Seiko, an automatic or eco drive Citizen, a automatic (myota ~Citizen~) movement Invicta or something along those lines. You can get a great specimen of any of said watches for under $200 getting exactly what you want style wise (and more accurately for less than $150) and it'll be accurate/tough and last forever. Period.

I've heard some good things and some bad things about Marathon watches and think you can get a bigger bang for your buck elsewhere...I'd put up an order for a MKII for that price range and get a better watch.

Plus I find it hard to take a watch company seriously that makes a musical cake server and pedometer......

I know it's significantly more expensive but I've been drooling over these two watches...the Sinn can be found for around $1000 on fleabay for a near new watch on a rubber band.....it's a very cool piece. Don't own one but have a friend who does and loves it. BTW: it's got a ETA 2824 movement (reworked) so you know parts are going to be readily available for when something inevitably breaks....even though it may be 15 years down the road.

This Schaumburg is a friggin STUD...don't know a whit about it beyond the fact that they use the ETA 2824 (reworked by them) or it's equivalent from another swiss maker, but: WOW

It's totally off base, but this watch is a hell of a deal, had an incredible hand winding movement with a reserve around 55 hours, it's tough and you can take it in the water...unless you're diving pretty deep. Not to mention that it's got a 5 year warranty and speaking from personal experience both with the movement and the company...you're getting a bargain here. I own a couple Invictas and while you'll get some nay sayers here and there, the other two people whom I know to own MANY love them as do I. They really do cover their watches well. I bought a kinetic watch from them made by now defunct Ventura and had TONS of trouble with the charging cycle and the battery and had to send it in for major work three times...each time it came back within a month (once was just over a week) and it was working perfectly each time. For some reason the watch didn't like to be left dead for a spell and would work perfectly if you were to wear it every day and hold a charge quite well, but would get fritzy on you charge wise if you were to let it sit for over a couple months...which I did all three times....I now keep it on a winder :p.

BUY THIS WATCH BEFORE I BREAK DOWN!!!

It's a saphire sandwich...meaning it's got an exhibition back to showcase the movement. It's a hell of a watch!!!

Obviously, appearance plays a big part in selecting a watch. For some reason, I really like the khaki dial on the Luminox 3013 as shown above. The 3013 is priced at $275. I can get it new for $146.88 free shipping. That's a pretty good deal. Isn't it?

If you can get the Luminox for under $150 NIB go for it . I paid $190 for mine back in '98.

I have a Luminox 3017, which is pretty much the same watch the OP is looking at except it is green face instead of tan. I believe that the current prices on Luminox products is a tad much for what they are- I wouldn't pay full price for one. However, objectively, I believe their quality is excellent. The glow in the dark feature is especailly bright and is as good as they claim. My last (battery powered) watch had a titanium case, so I enjoyed the lightness without a synthetic case, which is one thing that I was apprehensive about with the Luminox. However, I haven't had any problems on that front. I am also glad that I have yet to need to take advantage of Luminox's warranty- from the looks of terms/process, my assumption is that it is a PIA. That said, I am very satisfied with mine.

I bought one back in 1999...it ran out the first battery a few years later. I took it swimming once and it died. Local watch guy wanted $90 to replace the guts, he said the crown seal went bad and the guts got rusty. My bad luck. Everyone elses' seems fine. I've been thinking of sending it back for repair, but for the cost I wonder if it's even worth it. :grumpy:

I had all titanium Navy seal Luminox with TI bracelet, as I remember I paid $300 for it. After 3 years the bracelet broke down(the clasp latch and link pins). I put a rubber band and wore it for another year until the second hand came off. After that I took it to repair and sold it. Overall is a great watch. my was running +/- 1 second a month. The titanium was all scuffed, the filling paint on the bezel wore off, but sapphire coated crystal was like new. Considering the fact that I wear the watch 24/7 and abuse crap out of it(includes jack hummer use, ocean water, volleyball, bumping on hard objects, dragging against drywall and glass insulation, digging in the dirt and more) it held very well. For instance when I got a Marathon SAR, I sold it after weeks of wear because it started showing a lot of scratches and I was afraid of completely ruining a $500 watch. Now, for a second year I wear a G-shock, model 5600 that I bought for $90, and I must say I am very impressed of its ruggedness. It's also a very convenient watch, I don't have to adjust the time or change the battery, it has 3 alarms, auto back light, day/date/month/year. It's super light and I am not afraid of breaking it.
I really like the Rolex Deep Sea, but if I get it, I still will be wearing my G-shock most of the time.

P.S. Luminox does have a screw down crown.
