Took a few shots tonight as the lunar eclipse was starting, this one looks like it has a couple of impacts near the top?

a crop from that shows;

and then later as it was just about covered;

Pretty kool stuff, I SURE wish I had my longer lens SX40 camera :( just a 300mm lens doesn't do this justice...

Nice pics Gary. Missed it tonight. Just got home but many quality hours have been spent laying in the yard staring up at meteor showers with the kids. Priceless.

I watched through my son's telescope. It was bright here when it started.

Here is my attempt to photograph it through my son's telescope.....with my cellphone.

It did not turn out!

Great pictures, Gary!

Unfortunately we had almost 100% cloud cover here after a week of beautiful blue skies.

I appreciate your pictures - any thoughts on the impact phenomenon?

I watched the eclipse slowly turn the moon to red tonight. I found it rather underwhelming but glad I got to see what all the fuss was about.🌗

Solar eclipses are very impressive. The next solar eclipse that can be seen in the United States and North America will be on August 21, 2017, and will be a total eclipse.

Thanks guys, not sure on that impact site, I was taken back when I viewed it, here's a zoom and then a screen capture of that;

I checked images before it and after and nothing, but they were not taken close together, timer used and didn't take rapid fire shots, otherwise it should have shown up somewhere else, maybe someone has better images of it...

Over a minute of totality expected where I live. I've been planning a party for that day for 2 years now! Should be a cool experience, and to imagine sharing it with my family is pretty great. The younger ones are already excited about it.

Was pretty neat seeing this lunar eclipse with my kids. Imagine a 13-yr old trying to explain it to a 7-yo. :D "Earth between the sun and moon is a Lunar eclipse. Moon between the earth and sun is a Solar eclipse, Sun between the earth and moon is an apocalypse." He came up with that one. (or he got it off the internet) I laughed out loud. My wife didn't get it, and we had to explain it.

Good one :) my wife said to say she got it right away, she always was pretty clever ;)

It was cloudy in my area, so thank you very much for sharing the photos and humor.

I did notice that even with the cloud cover, any lighting around the house seemed to be more direct, providing very dark shadows (more than normal).

Pretty cool. Thanks for the pics!!!
I took a crapy cellphone pic at the 1/3 part. The cloud cover was crazy bad, and I soon got bored with it.

Little late to the party, bit thx for the pics all.

Once every 18 year event and all i saw were rain clouds.

Ok. I have a serious question. You all seem to know more about this kind of cool stuff than I do.

Why is it that there is not a solar and lunar eclipse for every cycle of the moon? I seriously am confused as ive never really studied the matter. In my head, when we have a new moon (no moon) its on the other side of the planet at the same time as the sun. Why is there no solar eclipse during this time?

When we have a full moon, why doesn't the earth block the suns rays from reflecting off of the moon?

Just curious.
