M-43 or Ganga Ram?

By its nature, the M43 (MKII) was a primary backup weapon for a force that kept towns, villages and farmers safe. The military force often lived in the field for some time so this was a weapon, a knife, an ax and an all around tool. Not a specialist at any one task. Hence its broad appeal.

The Ganga Ram, if you read about its origin, is a heavy use farm tool. So by definition, it will take on wood chopping tasks better.

My definition of better means more efficient per calorie expended, wear and tear on the body and less fatigue on the hand. However, if you were to only measure blow by blow how deep each blade penetrates into the wood, it may appear that they are more or less equal.

As for the two being different animals, I agree. However, once you own one or the other you will quickly get used to them and feel comfortable. I have rarely if ever heard anyone call either the M43 or Ganga Ram "lacking" in any task...

Thanks everyone for the info.
If you have more, keep it coming.
I could get the M-43 and that would give me all the "military" blades (WW2.BAS, M43).
The GRS in 18" would give me a "tool" knife which would fit in with my CAK and AK.
I guess the only way to solve the dilema is to buy both.:D
Goal for this year; acquire an M43 that I like, and an 18" GRS that I like.:)
Now when I work overtime it will mean something.
I can tell them at work that I help employ metal workers half way around the world, and in return they send me stunning works of art that can be used as tools. A very special lady in Reno helps to facilitate this by showing these works of art to other people world wide. You have to be fast because the art show is first come, first serve and since they are "one of a kinds" they disappear quickly.
If I say I am buying a knife, they'll just ask me why I need another one ---- they don't quite get it:D
HIKV--- no know cure, but you can alleviate the symptoms every once and awhile.:)
