By its nature, the M43 (MKII) was a primary backup weapon for a force that kept towns, villages and farmers safe. The military force often lived in the field for some time so this was a weapon, a knife, an ax and an all around tool. Not a specialist at any one task. Hence its broad appeal.
The Ganga Ram, if you read about its origin, is a heavy use farm tool. So by definition, it will take on wood chopping tasks better.
My definition of better means more efficient per calorie expended, wear and tear on the body and less fatigue on the hand. However, if you were to only measure blow by blow how deep each blade penetrates into the wood, it may appear that they are more or less equal.
As for the two being different animals, I agree. However, once you own one or the other you will quickly get used to them and feel comfortable. I have rarely if ever heard anyone call either the M43 or Ganga Ram "lacking" in any task...
