Well I've seen the new version now, Allen EMailed me a pic. I can put it online tonight.
No matter what else is said, it's an attempt to "get away from his Doggish roots". He's using the same basic mechanical contruction on the grip but the overall profile is more like an old Loveless small utility knife than anything Mad Dog ever did, with maybe a faint hint of Bob Dozier or something. Not to the point of cloning though. You can still see "Mad Dog influences" but that's a lot better than "slavish copying". I wish I could post it now but I didn't have time this morning from home.
The blade shape isn't quite like anything Kevin did either, neither was the last one - both are flat ground. There's still that bit of Doggish choil but it's not exreme. The biggest problem before was that seriously Dogoid grip combined with faint Doggishness on the blade all added up way too close to "clone"; with the grip totally re-shaped I think it's acceptable. I'm not quite sure yet, but it's possible this is the same knife with a massively re-worked grip shape and handling; it made a difference and should be fine for the type of knife involved.
I'm assuming that as Allen develops he'll drift further from Doggish roots. As is, it's at least clear he's trying.
