Hello guys.
Belive me, This title is not accidental. The steel is X12FM. /Russian answer of D2/ When I was still green in forging, tried to forge this steel and failed. Twice. Big impressive kracks appared on the billets. And I give up. After some time I understood that this steel need much lower forging temperature 750 850 C. So this autumn, on the open forging lesson for Bulgarian knife frum I forged this blade from 22 mm. bar. Lower temperature meens much more work with hammer. So, I used some young enthusiasts, to help me.
Blade - Differentially heat treated with clay. After double tempering cycles - 2 hours each on 210 220 C, the blade is steel over 62 HRC in my opinion. I and a friend tried to measure the hardhes, but it was impossible because of the differential heat treatment and slight convex. So about hardhess I can count only on my experience.
