This is my view of the Japanese tanto. It could also be called "Theme variation".
Blade – 184 layers hand forged of 52100 and 75Ni8 Damascus steel. Differentially heat treated with clay. 59 – 61 HRC after tempering.
Handle - Walnut root.
Inlays – silver, bronze and copper.
