A small folder I was given, nothing at all special & it looks as though the whole knife has been bent!
But for some reason I like it so I shall take it apart & do what's necessary to make it serviceable, maybe change what look like brown plastic scales.

Does anyone know anything about the makers stamp?

Thanks.

Bent blade & spring, and plastic covers.......... 😝 Plus lots of rust.

It has a nice snap to it & that's one of the reasons I'm bothering, it'll get a very slight reshape of the stress point on the spring & then polished.
Wood covers in order I think.

Two old (low end) carbon slip-joint knives with marks I can't identify.
If anyone has any idea that'd be great.

First, I'm convinced the brand is German.

Second, I've seen that mark referred to by a few different, yet similar names-

1. Messerschmiede-Weimar ("messerschmiede" means "cutler" or "knifemaker", and "Weimar" is a city in Germany).

2. Messerklaus-Weimar ("messer" means "knife", "Klaus" was the last name of a German knife company owner in Weimar (Josef Klaus). Klaus also used the mark "KW").

3. Messerfabrik-Weimar ("messerfabrik" means "knife factory").

I spent some time on a German knife forum, and there was a member there who appeared very knowledgeable about the "MW" knives, and German knife brands in general, and he said that he spent some time researching the "MW" brand, and he appeared to endorse the "Messerklaus-Weimar" name.

I can't confirm which, if any of those brand names is the one true brand. Just passing on what I found. There does appear to be a consensus on two things- the "MW" mark is for a German knife brand (whether all of their knives were made in Germany, or some imported, who knows), and, the "W" stands for "Weimar", a city in Germany.

So take all of that for whatever it's worth :) .
