And to just bring this up-to-date for anyone searching in the future I can confirm MW is German and is something along the lines of VEB Messerwerke Weimar. Weimar being a German city.

Thank you very much K killgar , you are spot on.

A Google with that name brought up a German ebay knife wth the same logo, the German seller described it as being made by VEB Messerwerke Weimar.

I saw a few MW knives on ebay, and elsewhere, but sometimes sellers can be wrong. I'd want to see something more official to say for sure. "Messerwereke/Messerwerk" is yet another possibility.

To be honest Weimar, Germany is a pretty good start considering I didn't even know the country of origin previously.
I'll add any more info I find but don't hold your breath, the other linked thread was two years ago!
