A Google with that name brought up a German ebay knife wth the same logo, the German seller described it as being made by VEB Messerwerke Weimar.

I saw a few MW knives on ebay, and elsewhere, but sometimes sellers can be wrong. I'd want to see something more official to say for sure. "Messerwereke/Messerwerk" is yet another possibility.
 
To be honest Weimar, Germany is a pretty good start considering I didn't even know the country of origin previously.
I'll add any more info I find but don't hold your breath, the other linked thread was two years ago!

This is actually quite inspiring! I've always enjoyed tinkering, but have been terrified to pull a knife apart. I'm glad things worked out well for you, I think everything turned out great, and I'm glad you were able to get some information about the maker! Appreciate you sharing!!
