M-Tech Bargain Folders

I have only handled one MTech knife and it belongs to a friend. It seems fairly well made, he is an evil knife abuser and I'm surprised it is still in one piece. It is a linerlock with aluminum scales, but it doesnt have two liners, just one that has the lock-looks funny IMO. When his girlfriend told me how much she paid for it I almost died-she bought it from one of those overpriced mall knife stores for over $20. I didn't have the heart to tell her I have seen the same knife in an Atlanta Cutlery catalog for about $5.95.

I've got one of their balisongs. The F&F was flawless from what I could tell. Pivots have loosened some from twirling it around some. The edge is thicker than my liking and I need to take the edge down to the large bevel so it has a steeper grind. But it wasn't a bad deal. Sharpest knife I had handled out of the box at the time. Now that I remember I have this, I'm gonna tighten it up, grind the edge and then go abuse the hell out of it. I'll report my findings here.

The Chinese who made M-Techs take pride in what they do right and one of the sales reps said the people who've gone to the manufacturing plants in China tell him they really get hot if someone implies that they are junk knives.

Do you know where the Chinese cutlery that produces the M-Tech knives is located?

Are they also manufacturing knives for other US knife companies, e.g. for Smith&Wesson?

I bought one a few months ago for 11 dollars and it is good for an 11 dollar knive. I'm not afraid to beat it up and I have designated it my "lawnmower knife" and use it to scrape out the underneath of the deck. Lock-up fine and sharpens easily.

Basket-ball players do not complain about the Spalding balls which a made in China under USA licence.

The M-tech knife I have bougth is working perfectly well and I use it everday. The design is US and the technical requirements are too.
If you want to complain about cheap knives, complain about Pakistan made knives: the handle and blade aren't bad but the screws and small pieces are of poor quality.

I do not. The fellow I spoke to was an M-Tech rep in the U.S. He told me that friends of his who had met with the Chinese manufacturers had related to him that they take their products very seriously. They didn't have the materials to compete with really good knives, but that they did everything humanly possible to make the product as good as it could be.

My M-Tech has done much better than I expected and has held an edge longer than I thought it would. I've taken it out to sharpen it and said, "Nah, doesn't need it," and put it back in my pocket.
