M Tech

They have always seemed kind of low end to me. Higher quality than something like frost cutlery but still not my cup of tea.

I've always felt like their knives are a bit tactilol and not terribly well built.

I just hope this doesn't turn in to another politically oriented thread.

Do a search, this gets brought up every so often. M-tech has built a business by stealing the designs of others and making cheap copies. IIRC, they even cheated the original founder of this forum.

Don't expect them to perform close to the originals that they were based-on.

Just don't use them for anything you'd have to trust your fingers to the lock for. The steel won't hold an edge well either. They're cheap so they'd probably make a good loner/beater knife, use them on things that might mess up the edge on your good knife, or you don't mind if the person you lone it too uses it as a screwdriver.

junk.

uneven grinds, poorly machined parts, poorly finished, lopsided scales sharper than the knife edge, the list goes on.

Definitely better than the worst, but for the same funds you could get a sanrenmu, a mora, or a rough rider knife (all of which are better).

I bought one of the mtech cold steel trail master ripoffs, because it was all I could afford at the time, and didn't realize it was an exact copy until after it arrived. That said I was very happy with it's performance, it came dull out of the box, and the handle felt too rubbery, but after re-profiling, and a paracord wrap I was able beat the tar out of that knife (even throwing it), and it held up great. The edge didn't chip, or roll over, and knowing how little I paid for it just let me abuse it even more. In the end the steel itself performed above my expectations. Don't know if I would trust their fit and finish in a folder though.

My nephew works in a tire shop and uses and abuses his every day. There are better knives for more money, sure, but if you want something to use and abuse without worry MTech knives will fill the bill.

Best,

Heekma

I'm sorry, but this advice is dangerous. Mtechs are known to fall apart, literally.

I've had one (mini stiletto) for years and the wave feature won't work because of the stiff detent and the thumbstud's fell off on the floor twice. It's lock-tited in place for the 2nd time! MTECH = SH*TE :D

I grabbed a mtech fixed blade for a "car" knife. It has micarta handles, and though it doesn't have the greatest edge retention, it's not bad for riding in my glove box in case of emergencies. All in all, not terrible, but just a low end knife.

So just use Curse of the Pharaoh RED loctite!

It's holding up great with the blue since I don't use it. I was thinking about mounting it somehow and splitting a .22 bullet with the blade. I think I can hit it (within a few shots) but don't think I have the technology to capture the video. It will be sacrificed! :)

Not consistent.

Me and my buddy bought a couple pretty early into the knife addiction. My blade snapped after a bit of hard cutting, while his is still going strong after being chucked at trees and chopped with.

The screws came out, though, and the lockup sucked.
