Hi, I'm looking to purchase a medium to large fixed blade for camping. I have full size gerber axe for the extended trips. However my gf is only cool with 2-3 nights out, so I'm looking for something smaller than a 3' axe that's capable of chopping limbs and performing general camp chores.

I'm looking at the Tec-Bow from SOG, any other suggestions along that price range.

Thanks in advance.

The tec bowie is a cool knife but not a heavy as you may be looking for. The BK-7 is a great knife for the money.

+ 1 vote for Becker 7" (combat utility). Great knife for the money. You can still get one NIB for like $60 shipped off ebay.

The best one I've found for what you're looking for is the Bark River Golok. Near ideal size, super at batoning, great chopper, sharp as all get out, able to spread peanut butter across a whole loaf of bread!

They're a bit hard to find right now, but I think you can still find some.

I am going to be placing some of my knives for sale, maybe tomorrow or thursday. some of the knives are been used once or twice, some are brand new. Basically I replaced all my knives with Fehrman and busse knives.

here are some of the names:

brand new BK9 desert coating

brand new BK1

used like new BK6

TOPS anaconda 7.5" blade(used twice)

TOPS Condor Alert 9.5" blade(new)

TOPS Steel Eagle 107D 7.5" blade(used once)

for the tops knives i have the certificate of authenticity

How about something like this??

ranger's are great knives for the $$$... also check out bark river knife and tool, they make a wide variety of fixed blades in all sorts of sizes....

Hahaha Hallow, that's one badass cut. I was thinking about falling maybe 3 inch limbs, if I have a tree to cut, I get my bow saw out.

Anywho, salvatruco, I live in markham, and am interested in your BK9. PM me back with your price and I'll see if it's within my budget.

Becker is a great value. Try one then maybe step up to a Ranger. When you do order a Ranger, think about features you would like to have that maybe the Becker did not and they can be done for a very fair cost.

What's the 2 teeth on that blade for?

That's called the cho. Nobody is sure. Some sort of traditional decoration. Some say represents the cow hoof, sacred in Hindu Nepal. Some say it is kind of like the point and inside of the Trishul of Shiva. Nobody really knows I don't think. There's no real practical purpose.

Owning a Ranger RD7, I can vouch for its capabilities in handling the general tasks you describe. The RD6 would be a little more handy for extended carry, but equally up to the task. The 5160 steel in the Ranger line is well suited for the application, and a definite step up from the Becker offerings. Many other excellent options mentioned here as well.....only limited by the depth of your pockets.
