M-UDT plain or serrated?

I'm going to buy a Microtech M-UDT shortly. I know I DON'T want a black blade, as I'll surely scratch it.

What I can't decide is if I should go with the partially serrated, or a plain-edge? The serrated seem to be more common, but the plain IS still available. Thoughts anyone?

The UDT2000 is the exact same size as the M-UDT and there are PLENTY available as they are in production. My advice is to pick one of these up and go with the Plain edge as the blade is too small to make partial serrations practical.

ALSO. The new black TiB (Titanium Boride) coating that they are using is VERY tough and I have yet to scratch mine and I use it.

I was told by Al of Microtech that someone actually used another knife made of ATS-34 to TRY to scratch the coating off, and it DID leave a mark. HOWEVER --- That mark was actually the ATS-34 filing off onto the coating. It was wiped clean and there was NO scratch on the finish.

So if you like black, get the black as it is tough as nails. If you like silver I would suggest Stonewashed.

If you want a REALLY cool finish, get a M-UDT ANopeen finish while you still can. Available at Triple Aught Design. Tell Patrick I sent you.

What exactly is the "anopeen" finish?

I MUCH prefer the Kraton insert of the M-UDT to the plain handle of the UDT (I assume this is the UDT2000?).

Thanks for the info, I guess I'll go with the plain edge, now I just have to decide on the finish .

Anopeen is a two-step finish that is a cross between Bead-Blast and Stonewashed. The blades are first tumbled in the stonewash to smooth it out. Then it is bead-blasted on top of that. It is a very attractive finish that they no longer do as it is too time consuming.
