M16 vs M16 Carbon Fiber

I have a Columbia River M16 Carbon Fiber (M16-01F) that I like a lot. Wondering if most prefer the carbon fiber over the regular M16 or vice versa as I may not be able to lead a full life unless I get a M16-03 as well.

How is the balance on the carbon fiber models? I have an aluminum tanto which is well balanced. Is the carbon fiber unbalanced?

Did they maybe add a second liner to the CF, to make the handle a bit heavier? Kind of defeating one of the assumed benes of the CF, but, like Rogue Spear, would think it might be quite blade heavy.

AnklePocket -- by the way, welcome to the forums. I have discovered that one can live with just 1 M16, so long as you have Mirages, LUSs, Tighe Tacs, Apaches, KFFs, Point Guards, Companions, and Stiff KISSs to keep those wanting pains at a level that can be withstood. (well, at least one of each. Am planning to get the S-2 shortly.)

The Carbonfiber M-16 is a beautiful knife. It feels ever so slightly blade heavy. Mine balances just aft of the pivot screw, about where the forward (towards blade) edge of your index finger would be in a saber grip or the forward facing edge of your pinky in a reverse grip.

The Fit and Finish is very good, you have to love the Carson Flipper and the blade, though not appreciated by some, gives you three cutting edges for three different types of tasks. I do not know about the three clip screws as to whether they are secured into the liner or merely the CF.

Though I generally consider the full sized M16 as a rough use folder, this one is almost too pretty.

I do not know much about AUS 118 and was wondering if anyone would provide insight.

Carbon fiber always feels slick in my hands. I prefer G-10 with a rough finish.

-the clip screws srew into the liner

-as for being "slick" carbon, it's not slick at all. in fact, the carbon felt too harsh on my hands. they have some kind of finish, not sure how they did it, but it feels like 80 grit sandpaper. roughest finish i've ever seen on any handle.

what i dont like about the M16 carbon fiber is that the carbon flexes. it's 1/8th inch carbon, but the un-lined side bends inward a little when you grip it hard. i dont think that really effects anything, it's just not comfortable.
if i were to buy an M16, i'd go with the aluminum handled one.
that's because of the size for one. i haven't handled, or didn't even know crkt was making a larger version, but compared to the one i had, which is smaller than the aluminum, it was too small for my tastes.
also, the aluminum is cheaper. yeah, the carbon one has AUS 118 (ACUTO 440), but the edgeholding of the AUS 8 isn't going to be far behind at all.

well, that's just my input.

I have the large aluminum tanto in plain edge and it is great. The large carbon fibre tanto will be partially serrated. I wish CRKT made it in plain edge.
