Which came first? the camillus markings on the blade of the M3 or the camillus markings on the finger guard of the M3.

Anybody know?

I believe (from a book I have at home but I'm at work) that the blade marked knives came first. The hilt marked knives were produced to save money or something. Anyone else?

IIRC, there was concern that the marking on the blade caused the blade to weaken, so the marking was moved to the tang.

1. Blade dated 1943
2. Blade marked without date
3. Guard marked
