It looks like we have a good bit of interest with the M390 steel. Based on the various conversations I am posting a group buy that is to take place on 08/08/17.

Material Details:

Bohler-Uddeholm M390 Steel

Thickness: 0.137.”

*Sheet Size: Approximately 24” x 36.”

Finish: Sandblasted with some scale remaining.

**Sizes Available: Full, half, quarter and eighth sheets. 1.25”, 1.5” and 2” by 18” sticks.

Cost Per Sheet: Currently $1050 per full sheet. If we get up to five sheets, the price reduces by $100 per sheet. If you order a full sheet, I will be able to reduce shipping by having the sheet sent from the factory. This means that the stated price is the shipped price for full sheets.

Cut Fees: I am being charged a flat rate of $40 per sheet regardless of length or number of cuts. This has been factored into the price of the sticks. To lose the least material we will use a laser to cut the material, and I will try to locate a facility that does EMJ wire cutting for future orders. I should also note that we can switch to water jet cutting for the same price. It just uses up more material.

Prices:

Full Sheet - $1050

Half Sheet - $545

Quarter Sheet - $272.50

Eighth Sheet - $136.25

2” x 18” - $52 each

1.5” x 18” - $39 each

1.25” x 18” - $32 each

You will also need to pay for shipping for every size smaller than a full sheet.

It is my thoughts that we can finalize the buy as of the 8th and we should all have payment at least arranged by the 11th. Once the money has cleared, I will order the same day. It takes about a week to get to my home and about 3 business days to get fit into the shop schedule in town. I will post updates and such during every step of the way so that everyone will be informed. Certificates will be available on request.

Now the fun part, payment options. I accept checks, Paypal and Etsy as payment options already. Of course, cash in person is also cool. If we use Paypal or Etsy, each person will need to pay the fees I will be charged. I think it is 5%. I would offer to eat the fee, but I am paying the same as everyone on this buy and have no room to do so. If there is another way that minimizes fees, I will be happy to accommodate.

Thank you to everyone who has been interested and to those who have given me some great advice already. I look forward to working with everyone here. Please pm or post for any details I may have missed.

*The sheet size is approximate due to it being a hot rolled sheet that is cut into thirds. Because of this the material is sold by the pound when bought in full sheet, half sheet, and quarter sheets

** Due to the irregular size of the sheet I will be sticking to 18” in length to offer a uniform and fair length. There is no way I can guarantee 36” in length for every person, but if requested I can try and leave some full length.

I'm interested in a sheet 24" x 36". What is the finished thickness after grinding the can off. I need .125" final thickness.

Put me down for a 1.5x18" stick.

Do you already have boxes lined up for these or how will you be shipping? What I recommend is snagging some 4 x 4 x 20" boxes from Amazon (you can get 20 or so in a package for about $1 each) and just tack that on the price. Shipping will vary by location but usps priory should only be $7-10 for one of these boxes I believe.

Thank you for asking. I actually use two strips of thin plywood and shrink wrap followed by a layer of cardboard that is taped. I have learned from a few larger companies that this is the way they have the least failure shipping steel. WHen I order my steel in small amount it arrives this way and is always in pristine condition. I will ship any way that any one wants just to put it out there. We all have our preferences.

Thank you for your interest. I will call the manufacturer in the morning and should have an answer by tomorrow afternoon. I looked at my quote and have noted that it arrives from the mill and is sandblasted. I also do not recall that my sales guy said it had a can. Thank you for asking and I will clarify by tomorrow afternoon.

Just a quick note. I am of the opinion that these sheets are all M390 and will be a little put out if it is not.

Ok, I have confirmed that these sheets are pure M390. There is no can left around it and the entire sheet is the premium steel with a sandblasted finish to remove the bulk of mill scale. This was confirmed this morning by Bohler-Uddeholm staff directly. Thanks to everyone for bringing that up. Even potential pitfalls are great to learn about. Hope this helps!

That sounds perfect!

I'll take a quarter sheet at least. If I can swing it I will try to work out a half sheet.

So far so good folks. Sorry not to post last night I lost power to my house for a day getting 220v installed in the shop. I'll do full updates and responses this evening and thank you all for your time.

Ok, all looks good and tomorrow is the day for final sizes. After that, I will via pm with everyone who has ordered and work out the shipping and choice of payment. Once payments are in I will order the metal, have it cut and send it out. I look forward to working with everyone. Sorry to be shorter when speaking I am learning how to use my new KMG and such.

Just was informed that I made a bit of an error. Half sheets are exactly half the price of a full sheet at $525. My apologies for the error.

Thanks for the invoice. Just got every sent through, and finished.

When will you have shipping info for us?

I will place the order on my end on this Friday when the money has cleared. I will announce its arrival and send it the next business day after it arrives. Each person will get tracking and confirmation every step of the way and can contact me in person at any time if concerned. If that works for you? I did receive a confirmation that your payment is waiting to clear as well via PayPal. Thank you for that.
