So i just got a m390 millie today and i noticed it had a side to side play that i have never felt before. It was making a clicking kind of sound. So i took my flashlight to the pivot and i only saw one washer. I took the blade off not the scales and confirmed there was only one washer. I called spyderco and asked if that was the norm and they told me no, and asked for me to send it in to fix (I am extremely impatient), i declined and asked if they can send me a set of washers instead (voided my warranty, but idc). Thank god spyderco sends you the parts out sometimes to do it yourself because i know i woulda been antsy and grumpy till i got it back if i sent it to them. Here are the pics so you guys can see what i'm talking about, the steel liner was rubbing on the steel near the pivot because there was only one washer. This is not a spyderco(i love spyderco) bashing thread btw, just letting you guys know about a problem i had that got solved.

military is a cool knife mine has some play side to side too but i can live with it ..good you got it fixed

I can live with some play aswell, just this felt different and was pretty noticeable and when i further inspected it was missing a washer. When the washer comes in im sure it will be smooth as butter and the play will be gone. I am actually surprised that the knife still locked up well and was almost centered with just one washer. This is my first millie and i'm bummed about the washer, but it's still an awesome knife. I can't wait to use it!

I bet the person(S) that had the knife before you did that. Not Spyderco. Just my guess.

yea I bet the dealers open the spydercos and take a screw here, washer there, then they build knives outta the spare parts to sell for profit

Definitely not the seller, I broke the seal on the locktite so it came from the factory like that.

no way, maybe they re-loctited it down to hide the evidence of their crime. ;)

the only knife I ever got with missing parts from the factory was a spyderco.

Yeah since dealers still have M390 CF Millies for sale. Why do you think I said people(s)? Dflores got it on the secondary market. Nice try on being sarcastic and a jokester though.

They wouldn't send me a washer for my military. I guess it depends who you talk to.

The dealers are people too, and they did have it at one point, and could have taken it then right? I'm just trying to help your ridiculous claim sound more feasible. Although the simplest explanation tends to be the correct one, so I would guess it came like that from the factory.

I guess accidentally leaving out a washer while breaking the knife down for cleaning is ridiculous, which is just as simple as the factory forgetting one. But you probably really thought I meant they took it out on purpose.

Well if the knife was a user I guess that could happen, but it looks like new to me so I doubt anyone is breaking down their like new knives for cleaning, plus they would have voided their warranty. You can see on the one side of the knife there are no marks from a washer ever being there. Maybe the person forgot to put the washer back but remembered to polish out the marks from where the washer had been?

Ya ^^ thats why i took the pics, you can't even see a mark from where a washer would have been. And ya, i woulda been pretty amped waiting for weeks for a washer.

Have you ever read a thread on Bladeforums? People take apart anything with screws, just because they can. Not just for cleaning, either. Some of them do it just to see what the inside looks like. Washer lost by previous owner is at least as likely as left out by the factory. As for Locktite, they sell that stuff at hardware stores everywhere. Just because you had to break it loose to remove a screw doesn't mean it was put there by the manufacturer.

This is nowhere close to the first time a weird washer issue has been reported, so I don't know why there is suspicion of use before purchase.

The interesting thing is I've only seen reports of it on Golden made models.

because the die hards can't accept that spyderco made a mistake, they would rather believe far fetched situations and ignore the OPs claims or the evidence that shows the knife never had a washer. Just like Jill's thread about the clip on the Ti millie, they come in there to suggest the knife was returned or the clip was damaged by the dealer. But all you have to do is look at any Millie and you can see the tip of the clip is where they leave a small tab when they cut them out before they get polished, so they all have some small imperfection there, hers was just really bad and didn't polish out. I got a new PM2 a few weeks ago missing a screw, straight from a reputable dealer. It happens, but why they stretch their imaginations to make excuses for it I couldn't tell you.
