CTS204P is carpenters version of m390. Carpenters CTS20CP is their version of S90V, nothing like M390, except that it's steel and stainless.

Which (out of S90V and M390) has superior edge retention and corrosion resistance?

Which (out of S90V and M390) has superior edge retention and corrosion resistance?

Check out Ankerson's Ranking of Steels in Categories based on Edge Retention cutting 5/8" rope thread. As you can see implementations vary within the same steel.

For corrossion resistance the edge goes to M390 but you can't go wrong with either.

M390:

C: 1.90; W: 0.60; V: 4.00; Cr: 20.00; Mo: 1.00; Mn: 0.30; P: ?; S: ?; Si: 0.70;

S90V:

C: 2.30; W: 0.40; V: 8.75-9.00; Cr: 14.00; Mo: 1.00; Mn: 0.50; P: 0.03; S: 0.03; Si: 0.50;

What makes you say that ibute?

Well considering one of their dealers (CS) posted about it on Facebook the other day, I'm pretty certain it's true.

But Benchmade is making it so that the lowest price that any dealer can sell their knives for is 85% of MAAP and if the dealer doesn't abide by this, the dealer will no longer be allowed to sell their products.

Now, this next part is my opinion, in my experience but Benchmades quality does not warrant the price tag they ask for at MSRP or at MAAP.

I understand that they want their storefront dealers to compete with the online dealers (who have extremely low overhead in comparison) and by all means what happens between them and their dealers is their own business. However, I'm abstaining from purchasing any of their products because they have not produced anything in quite some time that I just had to purchase and stick in my pocket.

KAI's brands (ZT, Shun, Kershaw) can really only be found for roughly 80% of MSRP, due to the MAAP pricing. However, I'll gladly pay what they ask for the knives that grab my attention (eg Tilt, 0801CF) because I know I'm getting a great bang for my buck in comparison to Benchmade.

I'm a student and I work two jobs (ones an apprenticeship) to pay my bills while going to school full time. So, my spending money is stretched thin and if I can save money buy getting a comparable product for less money, I oftentimes will vote with my wallet. Benchmades new policy bothers me, as Benchmade was the brand that got me into this hobby and for the longest time I was a fervent Benchmade fanboy. But I simply do not see the value in their knives at the price they want to sell them at. Just my two cents.
