M390 vs Vanadis 4 for Guardian 3

So I want to start by saying that I already have a few Bradford knives and maybe biased. I would go with the M390 I think Brad does an amazing job getting his heat treat done, the edge retention was better then probably anything I own in M390 (or even 20CV or 204P) and his DLC coat is the strongest I have found.

Now if you are willing to spend a little bit more I would get one of the SG2 Guardian 3's. I just picked one up and its freaking ridiculous, best edge retention I have on any stainless knife. If you guys like I can post a pic.

Just ordered an SG2 G3 to pair with my new Armatus Architect sheath. It'll be my third G3 and my eighth Bradford knife (including my four Gatsby's, which by the way are outstanding steak knives). Needless to say I'm a fan. Thanks for the heads up on these!

Nice which one did you get? So many options lol.
I carry mine daily and love it. Btw I think they have SG2 Gatsby knives.

I agonized over it but decided to go with the black canvas micarta. I have my eye on those SG2 Gatsby's but I'm just not sure I need five or six killer steak knives. Of course, I probably don't really need three G3s, either :)

I feel it man, brad has a bunch of my money. I even got the Guardian flipper they has because it looks badass and I like the blue ano with the dlc coat.

I want a gatsby in m390 in carbon fiber or wood and one of the kydex sheaths he makes for them. Then I can EDC a steak knife lol

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Fallkniven use 3G(aka SG2) on some of their models? I never knew Bradford used it, though. Very interesting.

As for your original steel choices and the model, I'd go with M390 hands down. M390's toughness is very underrated and since you're looking at getting the smaller Guardian 3 you won't be chopping through steel rods or hardwoods any time soon.

Ok so now I am undecided again. I had planned to get the G3 in Nimbus, false edge, CF 3D contoured. Just didn't know if I wanted M390 or V4. Now that I've seen the SG2 San Mai, it looks so good that I am considering it instead. I will still get the CF 3D contoured either way. It poses the question, based on your comments I am convinced the SG2 would perform well but it will being San Mai Damascus affect performance either positively or negatively in any way?

Brad’s M390 is the best I’ve ever used. I prefer M390 for stainless over any steel.

Stop thinking about it. Brad’s M390 will amaze you in every regard.

I like his nimbus and scandi grind. If you’re gonna be cutting vegetables and paper the FFG would be a better option. I also got his full chunk handles and I really like the grip they offer on a small blade. I went with CF to keep it light as possible.

Anything sub 3” is measured to my Bradford3 in M390 and nothing has matched it yet.

Mail call this morning... 6 Lion Steel/s (Italy) one blade slip joints, M390 blade steel with titanium liners and bolsters.
Black Carbon fiber, White Carbon Fiber, Natural Micarta, Bocote wood, Rams horn and Stag horn.

I am looking to buy a Bradford Guardian 3 fixed blade. Help me decide between M390 and Vanadis 4 steel. What's your preference?

I've had about eight Bradford G3's in various steels such as M390 and others. I also have one in Vanadis 4E and it resides on my belt on a daily basis. It holds its edge and doesn't seem to mind our wet weather here in Florida. I keep one M390 in the safe just for kicks. It's a fine stainless just as my Vanadis 4E is a fine tool steel.
As a casual user, of course I cannot tell the difference between them.
