M390

M390 is a very stain-less steel.

It's true though that chromium content doesn't tell the entire story about corrosion resistance, look at zdp-189.

I bought a CASE SodBuster in CV stainless and it rusted where I touched it in a few days. First general consumer stainless knife to rust like that in ~5 decades for me. Had a Benchmade AFCK that was extra hard do the same on a visit to SeaWorld once too.

CV is Case’s non-stainless steel. Their stainless is marked as Tru-Sharp I believe. That’s probably why it showed rust so quick. I’m not entirely sure what steel Case uses for their CV models, but I do know it’s not stainless(a lot here prefer that).

All stainless steels will show rust or corrosion if the protective chrome oxide layer is broken by a rustable ferrous material. That is why many websites will advise that you don’t grind stainless with the same belts that you grind non stainless steels. LC200N and H1 can show rust if you sharpen them on the same stones that you sharpen non stainless steels on.

Case's CV is "Chrome Vanadium", which is a high carbon steel. Their stainless line of steel is stamped with "Tru-Sharp".
