M4 in Florida?

Eezox has worked well in Florida on D2, 1075, 1095, 1095 CV, 52100, S7, and INFI. It's not food safe but it will protect your tools. For food safe protection, I've had good results with canola oil but it has to be frequently applied.
Cool man I'll look this up! I'm not too worried about being "food safe"

Those purple pants.... Damn. LOL Burn them.

A little insecure about color are we ?
Hahahahah
nah dude, nah . . . they’re blue. They just look purple in the photo. Sides they are major butch; got em at Deluth Trading Work clothing co. Hard core work clothes. They make good winter pants / really thick and durable sweat pants.
YKK heavy duty zippers on the back pockets.

The way older version of these : Link to Deluth Trading
PS: I would by 5.11s but the reviews say they suck too bad to wear now. Goofy fit. Crotch down to ones knees.
Blue . . . see :
And don’t tell me what to wear (I don’t make fun of your silly devil mask).
:):):)

Ina way I'm jealous..this dude knows how to relax HARD. :D

You got it. :thumbsup::cool:
You people are just lucky I'm even wearing pants.
. . . kept getting dinged by the Mod for that one. Dang ! ! ! They are so strict here . . .
Chill

Hi folks. I just wanted to drop in again and say this thread has been very informative for me with regards to sme questions I've had about M4. Thanks to everyone who has contributed.

(And yes, please keep your pants on--whatever the color. ;) )

ha !
Funny thing is one night I made a sharpening vid and put it on YouTube.
It was so hot here I was in the habit of wearing running shorts around the house when it gets that hot. The angle of the camera pretty much shows legs and not shorts so it looks for all the world like I'm going commando and then some.

You and I both my friend. I just hope my M4 GB2 doesn't rust to shit!

Just remember to break it down and treat the blade with FrogLube/Eezox/One Shot or another corrosion inhibitor before field use.

I'm late to this party but I'd like to just add that steak (blood) gives my favorite patina. The colors are impressive.

As for forcing a patina for rust prevention, I've done it twice. SR101 and A2 rusted on me like a PITA during the humid summers here. Blade of the knives would be fine in their kydex sheath but the exposed tangs developed lite rust. I put a vinegar/mustard patina on them and it never happened again.

Idunno . . . I'm seeing some purple there in that patina.
Purple is taboo here (or some sheet).

Nah, that's great looking. Wow on S10V ! I forgot / didn't know it wasn't stainless. Makes me want a K2 again. So many knives ! So few funds.

Aquaholicc Aquaholicc Like you, I've been lusting a GB2. Unike you, I think I'm going to hold off.

Sexy awesome knife for sure, but I'm pretty well stocked in the niche it would occupy. Reading this thread helped me realize that. I widh I'd discovered the GB2 before the PM2. If my PM2 is ever lost or breaks, I'll know how to replace it.

craytab craytab Patina with a mirror edge is sooooo sexy!

Wowbagger Wowbagger thanks for the info man! Sadly I'm not looking for any other alternatives as far as knives go. I've got what I need in that respect, I can barely get the PM2 in m390 to ride in my pocket with this new L21. It's really ruined my rotation up big time!

Seems like I'll just have to buy a GB2 and see how it fairs in this salty humid hell hole I call Florida

I don't think I was suggesting that you get ANYTHING else but the GB2. I was just showing how different the GB M4 steel seemed to be compared to the Millie M4 steel . . . but like I said it could just be the secret coating they put on the GB before they ship it so it doesn't rust. I don't know; just theorizing.

Dude I'm loving that last photo patina, I have reason to believe a GB2 with this patina would be badass(given that fact that I won't care too awfully much about it seeing as I have many other knives that do the same job/better)..please tell me this is from a NY strip

I can't remember what the K2 was from. Bullnose was a fillet. Both I knew I wanted the patina so I purposely put the juicy goodness on the blade and let it sit while I ate (using the knife of course).

Smart man..seems like this GB2 just got 20 dollars more expensive.

I've had pretty good luck using Tuf Cloth Marine on non-stainless knives.

To be honest, I'm lazy and just carry a stainless knife as EDC and camp/hike utility. If I feel I need more knife (wilderness backpack), I add a carbon steel blade, coated with Tuf Marine, and keep it dry in my pack.

Thanks for the bump

I'm the same way, I'm lazy as hell when it comes to certain things. I feel as if I will buy the GB2 and hope for the best or just say screw it and force a nice patina with some prime rib or something!

I live in Illinois & it gets pretty humid up here in the summers. I also have a GB2 and I forced a patina, a very dark one, using hot apple cider vinegar. I first disassembled the knife, cleaned the blade and microwaved some vinegar in a tupper then I threw the blade in and repeated through the course of a day, I then scrubbed the vinegar off with alcohol and it turned super dark. Haven't had any rust problems since. It's a great knife, the maintence is well worth it.

That sounds like a very good way to make your house smell like tons of chemicals (not doubting this method)

Would you be able to upload a photo or two?
