just doesn't look right..... Did I describe it poorly?

Handles on the "torture knives" (specifically chakma) don't match?

It looks like the chape took a hit and part of the metal is missing.
Photos are deceptive, but I see black where I should see metal. This looks like the leather is peeking through....
