M48 Hawk broken in less thank a day..

Saw a u-tube video and they throw. probably not as good as a standard hawk but they are indestructible as well.

I believe tomahawks that are meant for throwing usually have wood handles, because they're going to break at some point and the wood handle can be easily replaced. This is partly why Cold Steel sells replacement handles for their hawks. I've thrown the Trench Hawk which also has a synthetic handle and it broke after about an hour or so. Throwing is probably the leading cause of broken hawk handles, but it's not such a big deal if it's wood and easily replaced....

The only time I've broken handles is when throwing. It puts a lot of stress on the handle.

speak the truth sir!

I'd say if he's into the tactical looking stuff grab a couple of fasthawks they are pretty cheap and can be had locally at Walmart. If he would be into a traditional style h&b is always a good place to start.

Would be a little price jump but I think the crkt/rmj hawk would be a good one. Also the cold steel hawks with hickory handles can take a pounding.

H&B are fantastic traditional tomahawks forged in the traditional manner (low carbon body wrapped around a mandrel with a high carbon bit forge welded in) and will probably run about 90 bucks with shipping for their throwers. Cold Steel is a cheaper alternative with a multitude of designs and are fairly light. The bits tend to be a little thin for my liking (camp chores) but they throw great and chop fairly well for their weight class. Tactical 'hawk wise, if you want to keep it cheap the SOG Tactical Tomahawk is a great alternative. Had mine for what has to be going on four years with god knows how many throws with 0 handle failure.

With these plastic handled tomahawks if it get's too cold outside the plastic has a higher tendency to break as well.

I would also recommend the Cold Steel tomahawks, or another tomahawk with a wooden handle. Throwing tomahawks puts a lot of stress on the handle and they will break at some point. That's why throwing tomahawks have wood handles, because they can be easily replaced. Hawks with synthetic handles will break but it's a bigger hassle to replace the handle.
