Alright, I finally landed a Springfield/CZ M6 Scout (parkerized) in .22LR and .410; used but in perfect shape. What are some recommendations based off your collective experiences for setting it up? Right now, I'm just considering attaching a small elastic .410 shell holder to the stock and getting a sling attached. I know there was a cotter pin replacement recommended, but I don't remember the details. Any feedback would be highly recommended!

Well, you know what they say..."Buddy" is only half the word:D I'm picking up a elastic buttstock pouch that I'll trim up and epoxy to the side (I think it holds 8 or 9 rounds of .410). I like the wingnut attachment for the take down pin and I'll have to figure out a good sling attachment. I don't care for the para-cord wrapped guard, but may look at a formed kydex one (no real pressure on the barrels). Has anybody ever scoped it before?

Consider...

for all the value of the attachments, you might be as well served to just stash a ditty bag with the M6, with all the clagger you will want to carry with the gun. Keeps the gun clean, and less cumbersome, and slinging the bag over a shoulder takes no time at all.

I'm a fan of this habit for a 'go gun'. I keep something like this for a .22 rifle and for a shotgun. Just makes things a lot easier than mounting a billion future-problems to your longarm.

I've had my M6 for about 4 yrs now, picked it up new at Sportsmans WH and as far as i could tell, it was the last one in Denver! LOL

I've done several mods to it including:
-dremel undercut of front sight to make it more visible thru the rear peep-sight
-painted sights black
-changed the sling mounts to Quick Detatch
-added a Hammer extention
-made my own sling of tube webing, added knife sheath pouches to hold knife, matches, mini-maglite AAA, more shells for the .410, and an extra pin for the rifle/shotgun.
- Oh, and i tore off that stupid trigger guard

I did a project to make a good solid replacement pin for the gun if the regular one got lost. Below is a diagram i made to show how the clevis pin replacement part was crafted, hope it helps. its alot smaller than using a big bolt and a wing-nut.

I have one of these and have thought several times about modifying it. I've just never gotten around to it and to be honest I haven't ever carried mine while hiking. If I'm carrying a gun it's usually a handgun for self defense or a long gun for hunting. I still like this gun, it just doesn't get to go on trips with me.

I can't believe how expensive these have gotten since I bought mine. On gunbroker they are going for, on average, $500+. I saw two that sold in the last week for a little over $400 and one that went for more than $800!!

I need to see if the guy that spent $800 wants another one!

Take it to the range with a few different kinds of .22 ammo, and see what it shoots the best. Keep the ejector clean and lubed, and the chamber clean, and it will shoot for a long time. Shoot it a lot, so that you can begin to get used to the wierd trigger bar system. My stainless one also has stainless (white) sights, so I blackened them with the most durable flat black paint I could find.

I would caution you that shooting birds on the wing with the .410 barrel is more of a stunt, than a truly practical endeavor. I have often thought that it was more suitable for blasting edible varmints such as rabbits, squirrels and any cooperative grouse you might come up with, that you didn't feel confident of hitting with the rimfire barrel.

It is a fun, lightweight and challenging way to go small game hunting. Hunting with a single shot quickly teaches one the importance of making that first shot count. Since there usually won't be a second one.

Good luck with this.

I've shot Ban's M6 and it's a fun rifle, I think you'll enjoy it. He has paracord wrapped on the barrel with a small knife and lighter under it I believe.

Can you shoot 45 long colt outta the 410 barrel on this one...I know that this is done with several 410's on the market.

Thanks again all. My first focus was going to be the sights; if the peep is good enough I'll leave it, but I have a large aperature on my little .357 Trapper and it's extremely fast. Nail polish on the front is a very good idea as well. I don't want to clutter the little gun, but I'd like to have a few extra rounds onboard and I'll play around with that option. A simple sling is a requirement for me. I really like the ditty bag option such as borrowed time's. I already purchased several boxes of different slugs and shot, so I'll be focusing on finding out what works best first. That stainless version looks nice, but my pockets weren't quite that deep:eek: I'm still kicking myself, because just a couple years ago there were two (stainless and parkerized) sitting in this little Kansas gunshop with close to normal price tags...I should have snagged both!

Well, I'm just glad I landed one. Now I'll have to see what I can make it do.

I'm not sure, but I know the new versions that were never released had that option.

Dude, what a coincidence... I just picked one up on Friday on the Hoodlums forum. Parkerized as well. Should get it in to my FFL next week. Cant wait, looks like a great little plinker.

Good to hear...mine should be here next week as well. I'll update this post with pictures once I get it.

Thanks, Ill do the same... Mine is coming with one of those preformed Kydex handguards like you mentioned. The previous owner had it made custom, and it supposedly attaches with industrial velcro? Its one of the earlier CZ ones, and does not have the Triggerguard. I got a great deal on it. I cant wait to tinker with it... From what I have read, one is not suppposed to shoot .45LC in these M6 .410s.

I have a question about these. Last time I looked at one, it had a .45LC which you could shoot a .410 though. Is this still the case?

Those never made it to production

I took the trigger gaurd off mine (original didn't have one) drilled the peep sight a little bigger and drilled out the front sling hole to take a standard sling swivil. bought a standard wood screw type swivil post for the back.. if you remove the screw at the bottom of the butt a3/4 in long wood screw swivl post go right in. I did all this before they were discontinued and the got stupidly expensive

Hey Men, I have a question... I just picked up my M6 today, and even though it came in the box, it did not come with the user manual. I can figure out how to pull or push the round knob to change the hammer to strike the different firing pins from .22 to .410, but I can't figure out the "lock" the round knob on top that says "lock" and then has a counterclockwise arrow? when I turn it EITHER way, it spins forever? And the hammer never seems to strike the firing pins? Any help from M6 owners would be appreciated!

I think the "lock" and counter-clockwise arrow just tell you that once you have it in the center and rotate it into the "safe" position (counter clockwise turn), it's "locked" and you can't pull up or push down to get the firing pin line up with the .22 or .410 barrels:confused: Not sure about the "spinning forever" piece...

Well, mine arrived as well. Just added a simple butt cuff that holds a few .410 rounds; just need to wait until the hurricane passes so I can test it out (flipping Ike screwed up my range time this week:mad:):

***Edited to add, check that there is a small protrusion on that nob's shaft that slides (when you rotate counter-clockwise) in to a cutout that is just below the "S" denoting the safety...
