Mace’s Hammer-In 2010 (Lots of Photos)

Everyone should keep an eye on this young smiths work! Sam Salvati makes some of the most beutifull forging hammers I have seen and have had the pleasure of using. Plus...Sam is is one of the good guys!(he would have brought me a cigar!;))

Just a great time! We had about 40 or so people show up and a lot of spectators looking in every now and then on the way to and from the Guilford Art Centers store. If you are looking for something interesting and handmade right here in the good ole US of A the Art center has a wonderfull set up for the hollidays. 411 Church St. Guilford CT.

Thank you to all the demonstrators...and thanks again to everyone who came out to make it a great day!!!:D

Very Cool Thread! Thanks for sharing guys.. I have some questions...:D

First off Where can I get a ghost bat like this one! it would be great fun to slip into the other lil league's team bat bag...

and This is proof Mr. Spangler is a robot... He's grinding his bellybutton

And something I have suspected for awhile now... Sam is an alien... His fingers light up like E.T.'s

Going to go find my tinfoil hat...

Jason :D:thumbup:

Thanks guys for the photos, I only got one of Mace doing his grilling demo:

I told Mace I'd only need an hour but took all day to finish the hammer. thanks to the dude who gave me the hickory pick handle to cut up for the handle, and Paul Letourneuououuo for the curly maple wedge, and Jon for getting burnt, and the other fellow for filling in holding the bar after Jon got burnt, and to Jason for welding on the porter bar :D It was great to see everyone and hang out! Thanks to Mace for inviting me to demo, and the other fun stuff!!!

some info on those photos. Mace kindly allowed me to be a guest in his house, and the next day took me to see his friend Bruce's shop. Bruce repairs old train cars, and has the best shop i've ever seen!!!! that big Masillon steam hammer is in his yard, along with a lathe that could spin a car and other huge awesome stuff. Inside was even better.

Just one machine among many, that is a radial arm drill press! His "small shop" had a lathe with a 16-20 foot bed and other good stuff :D

Jason sadly for you I smashed it to bits after the photo lest it harm someone else!

LOL just kidding, but you can see the big crack running around that stone. stored outside uncovered, the trough allowed to fill and freeze and drain have rendered it useless.

It was neat to put some names with faces. Nice time had by all. Thanks for posting.

...hmmm... purple safety glasses. Or is that fuschia, Mike? Total ghey robot. Do a quick search of your posts on this forum and see how many involve you hitting on Nick Wheeler.

Anyway, Mace, looks like a good time. Thanks for the contest - I'll take #36, please!

Does anyone have a pic of the hammer Sam made?

Chris, Can you give us a closeup of the knife?

Robots....don't ask don't tell....we already know:rolleyes:

Any how...great time...hope to do another in the spring!:D

I am glad everyone paid attention to my Blacksmith Assistant Safety Demo. No one else got burned that day!

Mace,

I didn't get a photo of the Sam's hammer after he finished it. I never really got a chance to get a close up of the raffle knife, but I can try to get one from Ron after he stains/finishes the handle.

In the mean time, here if a zoomed in photo of the knife. Not really what you were looking for, but the best I have at the moment.
