  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Machax Modness in Progress ----> Take II "Plastic is your friend"

I'm in chemistry right now. I could help you, but I don't know chemistry! I'm having the same problems you had. I like long blonde hair :love-struck:

Gotta wait til tomorrow so I can go track down some more etchant and a glass pan this time

Awaiting the next chapter. I hope fumes have cleared out by the time the Easter chicken arrives.

Um, if you are dipping your balls in etchant, than you may be doing it wrong....

when you soak these in etchant, does the knife have to be completely submerged or can you just apply to what is bare?

skystorm, the main thing here is patience... you were patient enough to cut the stencil, wait up a bit more and it will save you lots of etchant and grief.

Find an isolated spot where the ax will be undisturbed for a couple of days. Lay it flat and shim the bottom of the grind and handle so that the grind and all areas to be etched are flat or quite there. pour some etchant in a cup, grab a bunch of q-tips and apply over those areas, making sure they are completely covered. Leave it alone for a couple of hours, then wash the blade and scrub the areas with an old toothbrush. Repeat.

You can leave the etchant on for several hours, but after a long time it kinda dries up and a thick sludge forms, which is not as effective at eating steel away. I prefer to brush and q-tip before going to sleep, then do the same in the morning, then again when back from work and so forth... 2 to 3 days would give you a mark that no sandpaper can touch.

SkyStorm, you say your wife will never know because there is no evidence after you toss it, but you just wait till you leave this thread up on the computer and she sees the pictures you posted :) ;)

You weren't supposed to warn him! Now my entire plan for having his wife ship all the finished leather products he has to me is ruined!

Modding Act II -Cleaning up the spine

Mine had some pretty bad grind marks so I lightly ground them down on the belt sander and will move to some finer grits here shortly in prep for the file work

I know my mods move kind of slow but I have a lot to do and I try and enjoy the mods rather than rush through them. Next up will be the file work as soon as I decide on what I want to do. If you have some file work pics feel free to post them up.

Stay tuned......

The dragon logo you etched is beast, to bad the 2 and 16 aren't big enough for a logo etch on the flats.... I refuse to etch the cutting edge because I know I would screw it up big time....

I could probably do it on the 2, the 16 is too small though for that dragon. A different logo maybe... one knife at a time I have one other ahead of the 16 for modding after the 4.
