I am going to try my first machete, and am looking for designs. I'm thinking about a blade that is heavy at the tip, not too long, but am open to suggestions. This will be a working tool. Tutorials or pictures appreciated.
Here is one I recently finished for a customer. It has a heavy tip for digging, a vine/branch cutter, a bottle opener, and is forward curved for chopping.
Handle is persimmon. Blade is forged 5160. Looks a bit odd, but feels great in the hand. Chops wood like mad! The last 4" at the ricasso is straighter and sharper for small cutting chores, like cutting a rope.
