I am a fairly new knife smith with out many tools, but I want to try making a machete out of 1084 from aldo would it be unwise to attempt making one?
my forge is fairly small but I am thinking of making a larger one. i don't have a grinder can i make it by forging and cleaning up with a file?
Thanks.

Where are you in GA? Stop by the shop and I'll let you have a blade to put a handle onto.

I'm in Cumming. If you can find time to drop by during the work week, I'll give you a blade.

Or, if you really want to further your knifemaking, come down to the GA Knifemakers Guild meeting next weekend in Statesboro. Its a haul for us N. Atlanta folks, but its worth it. This quarter's meeting is at the Twin Blades shop. Those guys are masters, and their shop has a lot to teach you just in its own right. Plus, the Georgia Knifemakers Guild is an excellent organization that will help you a LOT in becoming a better maker. At the Knifemakers Guild show in September I was amazed at how many of the table holders came from our humble Georgia Guild. It really does make a big difference.
