Machete Question

Anyone using a machete to chop down a tree should learn how to choose the proper tools for their work. You could try to fillet fish with a chainsaw also, but don't expect much success there, either.

Actually, I've had plenty of success felling trees with a machete. Just pick an appropriate pattern and it's not very hard. Granted, an axe works best, but how well does it clear brush, hmm? I'm not usually going to carry both tools, so I lean towards carrying the one that handles the widest range of tasks. ;)

Oh, believe me, I've done it too. I just wouldn't expect the machete to work as well as the tool designed for the task, or question it's value when it fell short on performance.

Ah. I see where you were going with it now--I agree! A dedicated tool designed for a specific task or set of tasks will always perform better in those areas than a tool designed for more general use. Just like a multitool is no replacement for a toolbox full of dedicated individual tools.
