Machete recommendation?

can you recommend a model from them? I noticed they have quite a few. I saw the golok but wasn't sure if 18in was a good length or too short for a machete.
 
the el salvador seems to be a quite popular model....i havent been able to find one for sale though.
 
The Condors are the way to go, IMO. They work wonderfully from what I have seen and the little I have handled one.

What sorts of things will you mostly be doing with it? They have enough task-specific models that it's pretty easy to find something ideal for your region and needs. :)
 
My Tram bolo was worth way more than the $6 I paid for it. It came with decent fit and finish and is shockingly tough for such a cheap blade. Would still be a value at three times the price. I cannot recommend Martindale, though. Both of the ones I had came with horrible grind lines and wood to metal fit. So bad as to be virtually unusable. And they cost 4-5 times as much as the Tram. I traded both of the Martindales. I kept the Tram. YMMV

Where are you going and what do you want to do with the machete? A light and thin machete helps to clear medium brush and can limb small branches. It is bad for splitting wood or chopping through heavy trees. If you want to do more wood splitting and serious chopping through hard wood along with some brush clearing a thicker machete with a convex (axe-like) cross-section is better. It will bind less in hard thick material. If you are not really going to clear brush you might save weight and get better utility out of a large hatchet. If it has a flat back surface (poll) you can use it as a hammer and it is optimally designed for limbing and light wood splitting.

So what do you need/want to do? We could give you the best suggestions if you clarify your usage.
 
+1 on the Tram bolo. I've been abusing the crap outta mine, and no problems with it whatsoever. I did have to sand down the handles, to fit the tang a little better. And I put a coat of linseed oil on the handle, now it feels nice and grippy. I have a Condor Kukri inbound; I'll be posting a brief review when it gets here. It'll be my first Condor, and I'm pretty excited. My only other recommendation would be to look into the Ontario modded machete sold by Off The Map Outfitters (Brian Andrews from this forum). I've always wanted one, but always seem to cheap out when it comes to machetes.
 
another vote for the Tramontina. they've been around for a long time,
they do the job, and they are so inexpensive, like a mora!
