Machete Sharpening?

I would NOT apply a convex grind to this machete. We had a series of crazy microbursts last night over Boise and there were trees EVERYWHERE this morning. I put a brand new 12 inch and 14 inch with a flat grind through the ringer-these machetes are without a doubt V grind performers. I made quick work of the 8 inch thick limbs and treetrunks in the roads and front lawns just to test them. The blade is thin and light and bites DEEP. The swept design of the blade was designed to give a longer cutting edge when slicing through brush, (primary function as a vegitation clearance tool) and with the thin blade, is a much better deep biter/slicer than it is a devastating chopper like most Condors. After seeing the performance of these two blades this morning I will NOT be applying a convex edge to machetes of a similar blade thickness and steel.

Cheap belt sander, really light touch.

holy crap I'm listening to the wolves of callah on audio right now...CREEPY that this is the first time I've seen you post. I recognized the billy bumbler right away!

As far as the edge, you can get the prelimnary edge a multitude of ways, but the safest and quickest is to mount it onto a work bench with a c-clamp with just the edge protruding off the desk. You can then work one side to your liking while putting torque and drawing with the file, then flipping it over on the other side, c-clamping and finishing. OY!

I have a whole video series on this that I reallllllyyy need to get up.
