I ran across this Linder machete while surfing other knives. I don't know the vendor or what kind of steel is in it (I expect some ultilitarian carbon stuff), but it sure looks like the right length, shape and price. $30 for something to bang on trees or even dig with sounds good to me :)

I bought the long and short Linder machetes from World Knives. The transaction was uneventful, and shipping was pretty Quick. The Quality of the product is good. The edge is convex, but none to sharp. $0.02 - Q

$30 for a machete?? Cold Steel 'chetes are half that and tough as nails. I've beat the piss out of my panga!

I thought $30 was reasonable given the thickness of the blade and the convex grind-- more like a big RAT or Becker, but of course I wouldn't expect the same quality. I was able to find Linder's web site and they list the blade as stainless. [Spock voice, raised eybrow] "Interesting.....". I'm leaching their 29MB PDF catalog at the moment......

I'm in baton tool mode-- looking for reasonable and carry-able wood choppers for survival kits. I just couldn't bring myself to dig up camus roots with an expensive tool :barf:

The linder blades are thick, that's one of the things that attracted me to them. The blaes appear to be painted (2) black.

Machete for me is a WWII Khukuri. I'm thinking about getting another WWII Case XX jungle bolo. That sucker got razor sharp for a utility blade. I'd like to get one of the well made Mexican scabbards for it as well.

Well if its what your looking for the price ain't bad, I was just saying for a general tough as nails machete my cold steel has done real well...

I was having a bon fire one night, got drunk and chopped down a tree that was maybe a little too large with it and pinched the blade. It bent slightly, but for the most part didn't hold the bend; I love that 1055 spring steel! Takes a scarey sharp edge too- I can take out 2" sapplings in one swing!

Although it really don't split too well as the blade is somewhat thinnish and very flat. But my Ka-Bar or CCC 12" tanto do that well enough.

I was looking at these on ebay they are also marketed under the name Herbertz or atleast they look the same but the price got up to $30 plus and the shipping from germay was close to $15 so I let them go. Is this co. in the U.S. and how is the shipping. also does anyone have a sorce statside for the Martindale jungle knife or 10" golok?

fulmtaljkt, not sure but check brigade quartermasters, Im pretty sure they carry some martindale blades.

Don't forget the venerable Ontario Machete in 1095 carbon steel.

Not as sexy as others, but after 20+ years of thrashing and whacking with one, I can vouch for their durability.
