Machete - time to make this happen

I think that an SR77 machete would be the bomb. S7 is flexible and extremely tough

Have to admit, I know I'd buy (at least) one. Hard to justify--harder to pass up. ;) :D

As far as tough goes, I think Noss' destruction of a Cold Steel machete in 1055 steel proved it's more than tough enough for anything I've run into.

Found this photo posted long ago... I'd go for a SAR14/15 that's 5/32 thick :D

Is this real or a Photo Shop? I would go for a blade like this with those handles on the Swamp Rat proto's from KC

My first hand experience with this idea that had me very excited resulted in an experience that says not just no, but fail, as it is a little too flexible when thinned to machete specs. My SR77 proto went bad very quickly in real world use when contacting just seasoned lodgepole, rippled and deformed horribly and lost all functionality. This was my first of any Bussekin product to let me down in almost 6 years of using/testing these things so I was surprised. Anyone who wishes to see photo evidence of this privately may do so, I just am not going to post pics of it here per Jerry's rules.

I believe you and it may be that SR77 just isn't for that. AS strange as that may be, I believe it based on how flexible this 1/4 inch scrapyard dogfather is.

Ok, so SR101 would work. Much harder and still flexible.

Tyrade, you can flex most anything if you try hard enough. 3/16 is not a machete.

Actually, Hunter Martin is making a nice traditional machete (17 1/2" blade) out of differentially heat-treated 52100 and has done some impressive (abusive) testing with a sub-1/8" thick model. So yeah, maybe. But the 1311 in through-hardened SR101 has seen more catastrophic failures reported here than any other model I can remember, and in a thicker blade at that. They really need to go back to a differential heat treat on that steel, IMHO.

You're singing my song. I have, for some years now, been pitching for a true machete from the Busseverse, made from 1/8" SR77, 16 -18" blade. Maybe Jerry will listen to you.

I know, I was just being argumentative. I have actually reground that one to a full convex zero grind. It's not quite 1/8 yet, but it's closer than it was when new. I may have went a bit thin on the edge grind as it took some damage from some cedar knots, but I'm rather impressed how well it held up being as thin as it is.

LOL, so you are slowly turning yours into a full on machete. I like it.
